Project Architect Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a project architect in Texas?
Becoming a project architect in Texas requires licensure through the Texas Board of Architectural Examiners, which oversees registration for all practicing architects in the state. Candidates must hold a professional degree in architecture from an NAAB-accredited institution, complete the Architectural Experience Program, and pass the Architect Registration Examination. Most Texas firms expect several years of post-licensure project experience before hiring into a project architect role with full design and client accountability.
Which companies hire project architects in Texas?
Employers hiring project architects in Texas right now include EY, Infosys, and Stantec, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's concentration of major healthcare systems, corporate campus developments, and publicly funded institutional projects keeps a consistent pipeline of openings across both large national firms and regional Texas-based practices.
Which Texas cities have the most project architect jobs?
Dallas, Austin, and Houston consistently lead for project architect openings in Texas. Houston's energy sector and Texas Medical Center drive significant healthcare and corporate architecture work, Dallas supports a dense commercial and mixed-use development market, and Austin's sustained population and tech-sector growth has made it one of the fastest-expanding markets for architectural services in the state.
Are there remote project architect jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're limited. Project architect work is inherently site-dependent, involving construction administration, contractor coordination, and on-site observation that require physical presence at key project milestones. About 25% of project architect openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those that are typically involve schematic design, design development, or documentation phases rather than construction-phase responsibilities.
How can I get hired as a project architect in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic path is applying as an architectural designer or intern architect at a mid-to-large Texas firm while completing the Architectural Experience Program hours required for licensure. Houston and Dallas firms like Page, HKS, and Corgan regularly onboard new graduates into structured project team roles. Building a portfolio with documented project contributions, pursuing your Texas architecture registration actively, and targeting healthcare or education-focused firms, which run predictable project pipelines, gives candidates a concrete edge over general applicants.
Where can I find and apply to project architect jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to project architect jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from Texas employers. Find the roles that fit your experience and specialization and apply directly. No profile creation or sign-up is needed to view and apply to listings.
