Tips for Your Project Architect Job Search
Tailor your resume to project phase
Hiring managers scan for where you owned a project, not just where you worked. Call out the phase you led, from schematic design through construction administration, and name the project type and scale directly in your bullet points.
Show your licensure timeline clearly
If you're licensed, list your state and license number. If you're still completing ARE sections, name the divisions you've passed. Ambiguity about licensure status is one of the fastest ways to get filtered out early in the review process.
Build a portfolio around decision moments
Don't fill your portfolio with finished renderings. Show a sheet that traces a real design or technical decision, the problem, your options, and what you chose. Firms hiring at the project architect level want to see judgment, not just output.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists project architect openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Target firms by delivery method match
Design-build, design-bid-build, and integrated project delivery firms need different skills from project architects. Check the firm's project delivery language in the posting and mirror that vocabulary in your resume and cover letter.
Prepare a technical question for every interview
In final-round interviews for project architect roles, asking how the firm handles CA-phase coordination or spec ownership signals that you understand where the work gets hard. It also opens a conversation that separates you from candidates who only discuss design intent.
Project Architect Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most project architects?
The companies hiring the most project architects right now include Colliers Engineering & Design, CVS Health, and HDR, with the largest share of openings in California, Texas, and New York, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Demand is heaviest in firms with active commercial, healthcare, and multifamily pipelines.
How many project architect jobs are remote?
About 35% of project architect openings are fully remote or hybrid as of June 2026, which is lower than many professional roles because the position often requires on-site CA visits and in-person client coordination. The sub-areas most likely to allow remote work are spec writing, early schematic design, and BIM coordination on projects that are still in design development.
How do you become a project architect?
You become a project architect by earning an accredited professional architecture degree, completing the required hours under the Architectural Experience Program, and passing all divisions of the Architect Registration Examination to earn licensure. From there, you build project leadership experience by taking on construction documents and owner communication responsibilities at progressively larger scales until you're managing a full project delivery team.
Can I get hired as a project architect without much experience?
Getting hired without much experience is possible if you've led any phase of a project end-to-end, even a small one, and can speak precisely about the decisions you owned. Firms sometimes hire candidates who are close to licensure but strong on Revit, specs, or CA experience. Targeting smaller firms or studios where project architects wear multiple hats tends to be more accessible than jumping into a large firm's structured role.
What does the project architect interview process look like?
The process typically starts with a portfolio review call or phone screen focused on your project types and licensure status, followed by a technical interview where you walk through a past project in depth, explaining how you handled coordination, documentation, and owner communication. Firms often close with a principal or associate principal interview that tests how you think through delivery challenges and client relationships before extending an offer.
Where can I find and apply to project architect jobs?
You can find and apply to project architect jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from across the United States. Find roles that match your project type, licensure status, and preferred delivery method, then apply directly to each listing that fits.
