Project Architect Jobs in Houston: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a project architect job in Houston?
Focus your search on Houston's energy sector, healthcare systems, and mixed-use commercial development, where most openings concentrate. Firms active in the Galleria corridor, Midtown, and the Texas Medical Center hire consistently. Candidates who can show experience managing large-scale commercial or institutional projects get the most traction locally. Familiarity with Houston's hot-humid climate design considerations and code landscape also gives you a concrete edge over generalist applicants.
Which companies hire project architects in Houston?
Companies currently hiring project architects in Houston include HDR, AECOM, and Corgan, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Houston's hiring base is broad, running from large architecture and engineering firms tied to energy and healthcare clients to regional firms specializing in mixed-use, hospitality, and institutional construction.
Are there remote project architect jobs in Houston?
Yes, though project architect roles are moderately limited for remote work since the role typically involves site coordination, client walkthroughs, and construction administration. About 21% of project architect openings tied to Houston are remote or hybrid as of September 2026. When remote flexibility does exist locally, it tends to apply to design development phases and document production rather than site-facing or construction observation duties.
How can I get a project architect job in Houston with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Houston is landing an architectural designer or project designer role at a mid-size firm that works in healthcare or commercial construction, where project teams are large enough to give junior staff real responsibility. Houston firms staffing large medical campus expansions and energy office builds regularly hire recent graduates who can support documentation and BIM production. Building a portfolio that reflects Houston project types, particularly institutional and mixed-use work, gives you the strongest local signal.
Which industries hire the most project architects in Houston?
Most project architect openings in Houston sit in Construction & Real Estate and Consulting & Professional Services, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Houston's concentration of petrochemical headquarters, one of the largest medical centers in the world, and sustained commercial real estate activity keeps demand for project architects across those sectors consistently above national averages.
