Technical Program Manager Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a technical program manager in Texas?
Most Texas employers require a bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, or a closely related technical discipline, followed by hands-on experience leading technical projects. Texas does not issue a state-specific license for this role, but earning a Project Management Professional certification from the Project Management Institute strengthens candidacy significantly. Many candidates move into the role from software engineering, systems engineering, or IT operations, building a portfolio of cross-functional delivery work along the way.
How much do technical program managers make in Texas?
Technical program managers in Texas earn a median of about $171,530 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $106,390 for the lowest 10% to over $277,160 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire technical program managers in Texas?
Employers hiring technical program managers in Texas right now include Apple, Amazon, and Google, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's concentration of defense contractors, semiconductor firms, and enterprise technology companies means demand for technical program managers remains consistent across multiple industries throughout the year.
Which Texas cities have the most technical program manager jobs?
Austin, Dallas, and Houston have the most technical program manager openings in Texas, driven by Austin's dense enterprise software and semiconductor presence, Dallas's financial technology and telecommunications sectors, and Houston's energy technology and aerospace industry base, each of which generates steady program management demand across large employer campuses and regional offices.
Are there remote technical program manager jobs in Texas?
Yes, and more than most fields, since technical program manager work is coordination and communication intensive rather than tied to a physical production environment. About 19% of technical program manager openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting how many technology and enterprise employers have embraced flexible working arrangements. Program planning, stakeholder alignment, and roadmap work are the functions most commonly performed fully remotely.
How can I get hired as a technical program manager in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving laterally from a technical role such as software engineer, systems analyst, or quality assurance lead, where you already coordinate work across teams. Large Texas employers like Dell Technologies and Lockheed Martin run rotational and associate program manager tracks that accept candidates with strong technical backgrounds but limited formal program management history. Earning a Certified Associate in Project Management credential before applying demonstrates initiative and helps differentiate candidates who lack years of direct experience.
Where can I find and apply to technical program manager jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to technical program manager jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current Texas openings across industries and experience levels. Find the roles that fit your background and apply directly to the ones that match.
