Energy Project Manager Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a energy project manager in Texas?
The most direct path is a bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, or a closely related field combined with field experience in the Texas energy sector. Texas does not require a state-issued project manager license, but the PMP certification is effectively a hiring standard among major Texas operators. Engineers who want to sign off on project documents should also pursue licensure with the Texas Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors. Starting in a coordinator or assistant PM role at an E&P company, utility, or EPC firm is the typical entry point.
How much do energy project managers make in Texas?
Energy project managers in Texas earn a median of about $171,370 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $120,460 for the lowest 10% to over $277,790 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire energy project managers in Texas?
Employers hiring energy project managers in Texas right now include NRG Energy, Energy Transfer, and Entergy, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's concentration of upstream operators, independent power producers, and transmission utilities means hiring activity is unusually consistent year-round compared with most other states.
Which Texas cities have the most energy project manager jobs?
Houston, Austin, and Dallas account for the largest share of energy project manager openings in Texas. Houston dominates because it serves as the global headquarters hub for oil and gas operators and EPC firms, while Dallas draws utility and renewable energy employers, and Midland concentrates upstream Permian Basin project work from both majors and independents.
Are there remote energy project manager jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're less common than in purely desk-based fields because the role routinely requires site visits, contractor oversight, and in-person coordination with field teams. About 15% of energy project manager openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those tend to be planning-heavy or early-stage development roles rather than active construction management positions.
How can I get hired as a energy project manager in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry point is a project coordinator or project controls analyst role at a Texas EPC firm, utility, or midstream operator, where you support senior PMs before taking independent ownership. Large Texas employers including Oncor, Fluor, and major Permian Basin operators regularly hire engineers and coordinators into rotational or development programs. Earning your CAPM certification before the PMP, building proficiency in Primavera P6, and completing an internship with a Texas-based energy company all strengthen a candidacy before you have a full project portfolio to show.
Where can I find and apply to energy project manager jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to energy project manager jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current Texas openings across oil and gas, renewables, and utilities. Search the listings for roles that match your experience level and specialization, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
