Our project types are broad, including offices, multi-family residential (mid & high-rise), assembly, natatoriums, and art galleries. Project sizes typically range from 100k to 2 million square feet but also include smaller buildings (5-50k sf), especially if they are highly energy efficient.
Other general responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

- Perform energy savings and lifecycle cost analyses of energy saving measures related to building envelope, lighting, HVAC, plug loads, and building energy management systems;
- Perform excel based calculations utilizing engineering principles;
- Develop and write reports that detail building components as well as describe energy efficiency measures to improve design and control for new and existing facilities;
- Perform quality checks and quality assurance for tasks performed by team members; and
- Provide feedback to project teams on cost effective ways of improving building energy performance and sustainability.
- Perform all other duties as assigned by your supervisor or manager.

The candidate we are seeking will have the following qualifications, skill sets, and experience:
- Bachelors or Masters degree in Mechanical, Aerospace or Civil Engineering, Physics or Architecture;
- Professional Engineer (PE) or Registered Architect (RA) accreditation is highly desirable either upon joining or planned in the near future.

- Thorough knowledge and experience with the New York State and NY City Energy Code
- Thorough knowledge and experience with the Passive House International (PHI) and/or Passive House Institute US (PHIUS) certification systems and relevant tools (PHPP, WUFI Passive, etc) is desirable.
- Superior verbal communication and writing skills
- Proven project management skills
- Proven ability to engage well with external stakeholders (e.g. clients and design partners)
- Thorough knowledge of energy efficiency in large and complex buildings
- Thorough knowledge of energy modeling software, DOE 2.2 or Energy Plus. Primary knowledge of IES may be acceptable, if complemented by knowledge of DOE 2.2. Note: Experience only with Train/Trace, Carrier/HAP, and/or eQuest is insufficient.
- The Energy Modeling group performs significant architectural energy modeling using THERM, WUFI and CFD software. Knowledge of architectural detailing and of the software platforms are a plus but not required. We will provide training otherwise.

Energy Project Manager Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become an energy project manager in New York?
Most energy project managers in New York enter the field with a bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, or environmental science, then build project experience in utilities or infrastructure before pursuing the Project Management Professional credential through PMI. New York does not require a state-issued license specific to this role, but engineers on regulated utility projects may need a Professional Engineer license issued by the New York State Education Department's Office of the Professions.
How much do energy project managers make in New York?
Energy project managers in New York earn a median of about $175,710 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $128,500 for the lowest 10% to over $274,870 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire energy project managers in New York?
Employers hiring energy project managers in New York right now include Brightcore Energy, Meta, and FirstService Residential, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's offshore wind buildout and ongoing grid modernization initiatives have expanded the roster of active employers well beyond the legacy utilities.
Which New York cities have the most energy project manager jobs?
New York, Armonk, and Brooklyn lead New York for energy project manager openings. New York City anchors demand through its large utility operations, real estate energy compliance needs, and the headquarters of major clean energy developers, while Albany draws hiring tied to state agency projects and NYSERDA-funded programs, and Buffalo benefits from its proximity to offshore wind staging and Great Lakes grid infrastructure work.
Are there remote energy project manager jobs in New York?
Yes, but they are less common than in purely desk-based fields, since the role regularly requires site visits, contractor coordination, and in-person stakeholder meetings. About 27% of energy project manager openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026. Planning, reporting, and policy-facing responsibilities tend to be the most remote-eligible portions of the role.
How can I get hired as an energy project manager in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is starting as a project coordinator or project engineer at a New York utility or clean energy firm, where you support senior project managers before taking on independent ownership. Con Edison, National Grid, and NYSERDA-funded contractors regularly bring on early-career candidates for associate or coordinator roles. A PMP or CAPM credential from PMI, even without years of experience, signals commitment and gives you a concrete differentiator when applying to these programs.
Where can I find and apply to energy project manager jobs in New York?
