The path requires an NAAB-accredited professional degree, completion of the Architectural Experience Program, and passing all divisions of the Architect Registration Examination. Firms in New York City typically expect candidates to carry or be actively pursuing licensure before moving into a project architect role.

Which New York cities have the most project architect jobs?
New York, Rochester, and Poughkeepsie account for the most project architect openings in New York. New York City drives the overwhelming share of demand given its volume of large commercial, institutional, and residential development, while Albany and Buffalo generate consistent openings through state government capital projects, university expansions, and regional healthcare facility work anchored by major health systems based in those metros.
