Security Project Manager Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a security project manager in New York?
The most direct path into a security project manager role in New York is combining a background in security systems, law enforcement, or IT security with a project management credential such as a PMP. New York does not issue a state-specific security project manager license, but many employers require a licensed security guard supervisor certification from the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services for roles with direct oversight of personnel. A bachelor's degree in security management, criminal justice, or engineering strengthens candidacy significantly.
How much do security project managers make in New York?
Security project managers in New York earn a median of about $121,040 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $74,580 for the lowest 10% to over $192,160 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire security project managers in New York?
Employers hiring security project managers in New York right now include Care Security Systems, Convergint, and Allied Universal, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. New York's concentration of financial institutions, healthcare systems, and large-scale infrastructure projects means demand is especially consistent among enterprise-level organizations with complex, multi-site security requirements.
Which New York cities have the most security project manager jobs?
The cities with the most security project manager openings in New York are New York, Henrietta, and Westchester County. New York City dominates the distribution because of its density of financial headquarters, government facilities, and large commercial real estate portfolios, while Albany draws openings tied to state government contracts and Buffalo reflects growing demand from healthcare systems and manufacturing campuses in western New York.
Are there remote security project manager jobs in New York?
Yes, but they're limited, because security project management frequently requires on-site assessments, vendor coordination, and physical inspections that cannot be done remotely. About 33% of security project manager openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how hands-on the role tends to be. The portions of the work most likely to be done remotely include documentation, scheduling, and compliance reporting rather than installation oversight or site walks.
How can I get hired as a security project manager in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving into a security project coordinator or junior project manager role from an adjacent position such as security systems technician, facilities coordinator, or loss prevention supervisor. Large New York employers like hospital networks including NYC Health and Hospitals and major property management firms often post associate-level project roles that do not require prior PM experience. Earning a CompTIA Security Plus certification or completing an online PMP preparation course strengthens an application considerably for candidates without a formal project management background.
Where can I find and apply to security project manager jobs in New York?
You can find and apply to security project manager jobs in New York on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state updated in real time. Search the listings, identify the roles that match your experience and target location, and apply directly to each one without needing to create a profile or sign up.
