Project Architect Jobs in Florida: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a project architect in Florida?
You become a project architect in Florida by earning a NAAB-accredited professional degree in architecture, completing the required hours under the Architectural Experience Program, and passing all divisions of the Architect Registration Examination. The Florida Board of Architecture and Interior Design then issues your Florida registered architect license. Most firms in Florida expect licensure before promoting anyone to a project architect title, though some allow candidates in the final stages of the AXP to take on the role under a licensed architect.
Which companies hire project architects in Florida?
Employers hiring project architects in Florida right now include Gensler, DLR, and Woolpert, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Florida's volume of healthcare construction, resort development, and large commercial mixed-use projects means both national design firms with Florida offices and regional practices with deep local roots post regularly.
Which Florida cities have the most project architect jobs?
The cities with the most project architect openings in Florida are Orlando, Miami, and Tampa. Miami drives volume through high-rise residential, hospitality, and international commercial work, Tampa draws healthcare and corporate campus projects tied to its growing business district, and Orlando's continuous resort expansion and convention infrastructure keep design firms staffed year-round.
Are there remote project architect jobs in Florida?
Yes, but they're limited. About 26% of project architect openings tied to Florida are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting the hands-on coordination the role demands. Schematic design, design development documentation, and code research are the phases most likely to allow remote days, while construction administration and consultant meetings generally require on-site or in-office presence.
How can I get hired as a project architect in Florida with little or no experience?
The most realistic path is applying as a project architect intern or architectural staff member at a mid-size Florida firm while completing your AXP hours toward licensure. Large Florida health system-affiliated design groups, university facilities departments, and firms serving the hospitality sector regularly bring on emerging professionals in production and documentation roles that grow into project architect responsibilities. Building a portfolio of Florida Building Code-compliant construction documents and pursuing LEED accreditation strengthens a candidacy before full licensure.
Where can I find and apply to project architect jobs in Florida?
You can find and apply to project architect jobs in Florida on Migrate Mate, which lists current Florida openings across commercial, healthcare, hospitality, and institutional sectors. Search the listings, find roles that match your experience and specialty, and apply directly to the employers posting them.
