Engineering Program Manager Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a engineering program manager in Texas?
The most direct path is a bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline followed by several years in a technical project or engineering role before moving into program management. Texas does not require a state-issued license specific to the engineering program manager title, though professional engineers who stamp documents must hold a Texas PE license through the Texas Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors. A PMP certification strengthens competitiveness across Texas employers in defense, energy, and technology sectors.
How much do engineering program managers make in Texas?
Engineering program managers in Texas earn a median of about $171,370 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $120,460 for the lowest 10% to over $277,790 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire engineering program managers in Texas?
Employers hiring engineering program managers in Texas right now include Apple, Amazon, and Garver, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's concentration of defense contractors, semiconductor fabs, and energy infrastructure companies means demand for program managers with hardware, systems, or energy delivery backgrounds is particularly strong.
Which Texas cities have the most engineering program manager jobs?
Austin, Houston, and Dallas have the most engineering program manager openings in Texas. Austin's tech and semiconductor cluster drives a large share of the roles, Dallas-Fort Worth anchors defense, telecom, and enterprise technology hiring, and Houston's energy and aerospace industries generate steady program management demand that includes both established energy majors and growing clean-energy firms.
Are there remote engineering program manager jobs in Texas?
Yes, and more than many engineering roles, since program management centers on coordination and communication rather than hands-on lab or field work. About 16% of engineering program manager openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting flexibility that varies by employer and industry. Defense and semiconductor employers typically require on-site presence, while enterprise software and technology companies in Austin and Dallas offer more remote options.
How can I get hired as a engineering program manager in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving into a junior program coordinator or technical project coordinator role after working as an engineer, systems analyst, or manufacturing engineer. Large Texas employers in aerospace and defense, including those in the Dallas-Fort Worth and Houston corridors, run rotational or associate program manager tracks for candidates with engineering degrees and limited direct PM experience. Earning a CAPM certification and building a portfolio of cross-functional projects from an engineering role significantly improves early candidacy with Texas employers.
Where can I find and apply to engineering program manager jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to engineering program manager jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current Texas openings from employers actively hiring in the state. Find roles that fit your experience and location and apply directly through the listings.
