INTRODUCTION
Under the leadership of Attorney General Raúl Torrez, the New Mexico Department of Justice (NMDOJ) serves as the chief legal authority for the state of New Mexico. The NMDOJ works to ensure that the rule of law is upheld, and the rights of all citizens are protected.
This posting will be used for ongoing recruitment and may close at any time. Applicant lists may be screened more than once.
As a valued New Mexico Department of Justice employee, you will receive a hiring bonus of forty (40) hours of leave at your start date to be used at any time. This is in addition to standard leave accrual for employees.
PURPOSE
The primary purpose of the unit is to provide personal security to the Attorney General, his family, and their physical locations to extend to their real property or residence. Secondary to their security function, the Agents assigned to the unit shall investigate any threats made against the office, its staff and the Attorney General. Agents assigned shall provide a liaison between the Executive Office and Operations regarding communicating threats and assessing weaknesses in physical security in NMDOJ offices. Agents assigned shall also, at the direction of the Attorney General provide security for visiting dignitaries i.e. visiting Attorney Generals from other jurisdictions. Agents assigned shall accompany the Attorney General, at his direction to functions, meetings, whether political or the business of the NMDOJ. During these assignments or in transit to and from Agents are considered on duty and shall conform to all readiness for duty requirements. Agents will be required to travel with the Attorney General out of state or at times even out of country.
Responsibilities
This position is accomplished through the planning, coordination, and execution of protective operations for the Attorney General, dignitaries, and other designated individuals. Responsibilities include:
- Conducting advance security assessments of event sites
- Developing security and contingency plans
- Gathering intelligence
- Coordinating with local, state, federal, national, and foreign law enforcement and security agencies
- Providing secure transportation services and utilizing protective and evasive driving techniques necessary for executive protection
- Strategically deploying personnel to ensure a safe and secure environment for dignitaries and their staff
- Investigating direct or indirect threats made against the Attorney General or NMDOJ employees
- Actively seeking specialized training opportunities and remaining current on protective operations tactics, procedures, and best practices
- Conducting background investigations
- Assisting with criminal investigations
- Providing training
- Supporting high-risk operations such as search warrants, warrant roundups, apprehensions, and other assignments requiring additional law enforcement resources as directed by management
CUSTOMERS
This position serves the Attorney General of the State of New Mexico.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Business or Public Administration, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Criminology, Criminal Justice, Police Science, or other related field with five (5) years of experience in law enforcement, criminal investigation, white-collar or economic/financial fraud investigation. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling nine (9) years may substitute for the required education and experience. Currently carry a valid New Mexico law enforcement certification or be eligible for certification by waiver of training.
EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS
Incumbent must submit to and pass an extensive background investigation and drug test. Must be a certified Peace Officer. Must be eligible for certification by waiver of previous training in accordance with provisions of Section 29-1-10 NMSA 1978. As a safety sensitive law enforcement position, incumbent will be subject to preemployment, random, and reasonable suspicion drug testing.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed in various settings in and out of the office with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive use of computer and phone usage. Working in a law enforcement environment, potential statewide travel, potential out of state travel, exposure to law enforcement investigations, and logistical planning of events and travel. Some sitting, standing, bending and reaching may be required. Must be able to lift 50lbs.
