Field Engineer Jobs in Richmond: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a field engineer job in Richmond?
Focus your search on Richmond's utilities, telecommunications, and construction sectors, which drive the most consistent field engineer demand in the city. Employers in the Scott's Addition corridor, Manchester, and along the Route 1 industrial belt hire regularly. Candidates who can demonstrate hands-on systems troubleshooting, familiarity with infrastructure-heavy environments, and experience coordinating with project managers on-site stand out in Richmond's market.
Which companies hire field engineers in Richmond?
Companies currently hiring field engineers in Richmond include Molex, Qualus, and Donley's, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Richmond's hiring base skews toward utilities providers, defense contractors with regional offices, and mid-size construction and infrastructure firms operating throughout the greater metro area.
Are there remote field engineer jobs in Richmond?
Yes, though remote work is rare for field engineers because the role is fundamentally hands-on and site-dependent. About 0% of field engineer openings tied to Richmond are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, which reflects how few tasks in the discipline can be performed off-site. The portions most suited to remote work in Richmond are documentation, reporting, and technical support coordination rather than installation or field inspection duties.
How can I get a field engineer job in Richmond with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Richmond is through associate field technician or junior field support roles at utilities and telecommunications firms operating in the metro area. Richmond's infrastructure-heavy employer base, including regional power and broadband providers, routinely hires entry-level candidates who hold a relevant associate or bachelor's degree, have completed a co-op or internship, or bring hands-on technical training from a community college program. Applying directly to contractors that staff large local utility projects is also a proven foot in the door.
