Entry Level Firmware Engineer Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get an entry level firmware engineer job?
Entry level firmware engineer roles go to candidates who can demonstrate hands-on embedded systems work, even outside a formal job. Build projects using microcontrollers, write clean C or C++ code, and publish your work in a portfolio or repository. Familiarity with real-time operating systems, hardware debugging tools, and communication protocols like I2C, SPI, or UART gives candidates a clear edge at this stage.
Which companies hire entry level firmware engineers?
Companies hiring entry level firmware engineers right now include Brady Corporation, Google, and Qualcomm, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Hiring at this level covers established electronics and semiconductor manufacturers, defense contractors, consumer device startups, and automotive suppliers that run structured new graduate programs alongside their experienced engineering teams.
Are there remote entry level firmware engineer jobs?
Yes, though on-site roles are more common at the entry level given the hands-on hardware work involved. About 0% of entry level firmware engineer openings are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, concentrated in software-heavy embedded roles where most development and testing can be done without physical lab access.
Are these new grad firmware engineer jobs?
Yes, the listings here include new grad, recent graduate, and junior firmware engineer roles alongside other entry level postings. A new grad friendly posting typically welcomes zero to two years of experience, counts internships or co-op terms toward that threshold, and accepts a strong project portfolio in place of professional work history, making them accessible to candidates coming straight out of an engineering program.
Which industries hire the most entry level firmware engineers?
Entry Level firmware engineer roles concentrate in Technology & Software, Electronics & Hardware, and Manufacturing, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Those sectors drive hiring at this level because they ship high volumes of connected or embedded products and rely on a steady pipeline of junior engineers to support development, testing, and integration work alongside senior staff.
