Mid Level Firmware Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a mid level firmware job?
Position your experience around ownership, not just contribution. Highlight specific firmware subsystems or features you led from design through integration, any debugging wins on embedded hardware, and decisions you made independently. Tailor your resume to the target platform and toolchain, since hiring managers at this level screen for hands-on depth in areas like RTOS, peripheral drivers, or bootloader development, not just general embedded exposure.
Which companies hire mid level firmwares?
Companies hiring mid level firmwares right now include Apple, NVIDIA, and Amazon, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Hiring at this level comes from a mix of consumer electronics brands, defense and aerospace contractors, medical device makers, and industrial automation firms, each looking for engineers who can own a functional area with minimal hand-holding.
Are there remote mid level firmware jobs?
Yes, though firmware roles skew more on-site than many software disciplines because of hardware access requirements. About 13% of mid level firmware openings are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, with hybrid arrangements most common at companies that need periodic lab or bench time. Fully remote roles do exist, typically at organizations with distributed embedded teams and established remote debugging workflows.
How do I move up to a mid level firmware role?
Growth into mid level firmware comes from accumulating real ownership over your early career. That means moving beyond ticket-level tasks to driving a full feature or subsystem, building comfort with hardware bring-up, writing production-quality drivers, and contributing to code reviews. Demonstrable impact, such as cutting boot time, resolving a critical hardware bug, or shipping a peripheral integration, signals readiness for the independence mid level roles require.
Which industries hire the most mid level firmwares?
Mid level firmware roles concentrate in Technology & Software, Electronics & Hardware, and Manufacturing, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. These sectors drive hiring at this level because they ship hardware products on tight cycles and need engineers who can own embedded subsystems without constant senior supervision, making mid level firmware one of the more consistently in-demand specializations in embedded engineering.
