The User Growth team drives TikTok Shop's growth by acquiring, activating, retaining, and referring customers to expand Gross Merchandise Value (GMV). The team optimizes conversion, reduces acquisition costs, and enhances customer lifetime value using data-driven strategies and machine learning, while collaborating across teams to refine growth tactics through experimentation and market analysis. Responsibilities:

• Own the technical direction of a user growth area, designing and building scalable, high-performance backend systems and features that support user acquisition, activation, engagement, and retention.
• Drive complex initiatives from architecture and technical design through implementation, testing, launch, and continuous optimization, while ensuring scalability, reliability, performance, and engineering quality.
• Collaborate closely with product managers and cross-functional partners to translate growth strategies and experimentation needs into reliable technical solutions, and contribute to technical direction and architecture decisions.
• Develop data and insights capabilities that enable actionable analysis of user behavior, growth performance, campaign effectiveness, and product opportunities.
• Mentor and support other engineers through technical guidance, contributing to a strong engineering culture and team growth.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years of software development experience, with strong experience building scalable and reliable backend systems and frontend systems.
• Proficiency in one or more backend programming languages, such as Java, Python, Go, or Node.js, and familiarity with modern frontend technologies.
• Experience with API design and development, including REST or GraphQL, microservices architecture, and frontend-backend integration.
• Experience building or maintaining testing infrastructure, frameworks, or automated testing systems.
• Experience using AI-assisted development tools to improve engineering productivity, with the ability to evaluate, validate, and debug AI-generated code or solutions.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills, with the ability to clearly communicate technical concepts and work effectively across functions.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in user growth, E-commerce, monetization, advertising, or other data-driven consumer products.
• Track record of developing and scaling technical initiatives from 0 to 1 and from 1 to 10.
• Experience building AI agents or agentic workflows and applying them to real-world engineering or product use cases.
• Experience delivering end-to-end projects leveraging AI or agentic technologies to improve product capabilities, engineering efficiency, or user experience.
• Experience mentoring engineers and providing technical guidance on complex projects.
• Experience collaborating effectively with globally distributed engineering and cross-functional teams across multiple time zones.

Job Information

【For Pay Transparency】Compensation Description (Annually) The base salary range for this position in the selected city is $207480 - $368220 annually. Compensation may vary outside of this range depending on a number of factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies and experience, and location. Base pay is one part of the Total Package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and this role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses/incentives, and restricted stock units. Benefits may vary depending on the nature of employment and the country work location. Employees have day one access to medical, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k) savings plan with company match, paid parental leave, short-term and long-term disability coverage, life insurance, wellbeing benefits, among others. Employees also receive 10 paid holidays per year, 10 paid sick days per year and 17 days of Paid Personal Time (prorated upon hire with increasing accruals by tenure).
