- Project & Financial Management: Manage projects from proposal preparation through final deliverable, ensuring scopes are met on time and within budget.
- Team Leadership & Accountability: Directly manage and mentor our field staff, including project geologists, inspectors, and CMT technicians. You will enforce high standards for report quality, ASTM/ACI compliance, and equipment stewardship.
- Quality Assurance: Partner with our Director of QA to audit lab and field testing procedures, ensuring our team is sharp, certified, and precise.
- Client Relations: Act as a primary technical contact for our key clients, developers, and contractors, ensuring exceptional service delivery.
## What We Are Looking For (Qualifications)
- License: Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in North Carolina is required. (South Carolina PE or ability to obtain via comity/reciprocity within 60 days is highly preferred).
- Experience: Minimum of 5–10 years of experience in Geotechnical Engineering and Construction Materials Testing (CMT). Experience with Environmental Site Assessments (Phase I ESAs) is a major plus.
- Technical Mastery: Deep knowledge of ASTM, ACI, and NCDOT/SCDOT testing standards.
- Leadership Track Record: Proven experience managing project workflows and holding field personnel accountable to deadlines and technical standards.
- Communication: Exceptional technical writing skills with the ability to clearly translate field data into actionable engineering reports.

Geotechnical Engineer Jobs in Charlotte: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a geotechnical engineer job in Charlotte?
The strongest path into Charlotte's market is through its active infrastructure and development sectors. Charlotte's rapid urban growth is driving demand for geotechnical work tied to transit expansion, commercial construction, and highway projects. Candidates with experience in foundation design, slope stability, or subsurface investigation tend to stand out. Targeting engineering consultancies and geotechnical specialty firms concentrated in Uptown and South End gives you the highest density of relevant openings.
Which companies hire geotechnical engineers in Charlotte?
Employers hiring geotechnical engineers in Charlotte right now include ECS Limited, Langan Engineering and Environmental Services, and HDR, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Charlotte's hiring mix leans toward geotechnical consulting firms, civil engineering practices, and construction management companies serving the region's ongoing infrastructure and commercial development pipeline.
Are there remote geotechnical engineer jobs in Charlotte?
Yes, but only partially. Geotechnical engineering is inherently field-heavy, so fully remote roles are rare. About 0% of geotechnical engineer openings tied to Charlotte are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting flexibility for report writing, data analysis, and project coordination work. On-site investigation, soil sampling, and field testing components almost always require in-person presence near Charlotte project sites.
How can I get a geotechnical engineer job in Charlotte with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Charlotte is through a staff or junior geotechnical engineer role at a mid-size consulting firm, where field work and mentorship are built into the position. Charlotte firms supporting NCDOT projects and the city's infrastructure expansion regularly hire recent graduates. Proficiency with geotechnical software, a strong internship portfolio, and familiarity with local soil conditions in the Piedmont region all strengthen a candidate's case considerably.
