Accounting Intern Green Card Jobs
Accounting Intern roles can qualify for EB-3 green card sponsorship through the PERM labor certification process, where your employer documents that no equally qualified U.S. worker is available. Sponsorship at the intern level is uncommon but real, typically at firms with structured rotational programs and long-term staffing pipelines.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Green Card Sponsorship as an Accounting Intern
Verify your degree aligns with PERM requirements
PERM requires employers to define a minimum education requirement tied to the role. For accounting interns, a bachelor's in accounting or a closely related field is the standard credential DOL expects documented in the labor certification.
Target firms with rotational sponsorship pipelines
Large public accounting firms and multinational corporations occasionally sponsor interns they intend to convert to full-time staff. Look for employers whose job postings explicitly reference long-term employment pathways or who have filed PERM applications for accounting roles before.
Search EB-3 sponsoring employers on Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter accounting intern opportunities by employers with active green card filing history. This cuts through guesswork and surfaces companies already familiar with the PERM process for entry-level accounting roles.
Raise sponsorship timing early in negotiations
PERM timelines run 18 to 24 months before a green card is approved. Bring up sponsorship intent before accepting an offer so the employer can confirm they're prepared to initiate the process during or after your internship converts to full-time.
Confirm the role meets DOL's prevailing wage standard
Your employer must pay at or above the DOL-certified prevailing wage for your job title and location. Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up the wage level for accounting intern roles in your metro area before negotiations begin.
Check if your internship qualifies under EB-2 or EB-3
Most accounting intern PERM cases file under EB-3 as a professional or skilled worker. EB-2 applies if the role genuinely requires an advanced degree, which is rare at the intern level. USCIS scrutinizes degree requirements, so the job description must accurately reflect what the position demands.

Find Accounting Intern JobsAccounting Intern Green Card Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Can an accounting intern role actually qualify for green card sponsorship?
Yes, but it's conditional. The role must require a specific degree, the employer must intend to retain you in a permanent capacity, and the position must be full-time. Internships that convert to permanent accounting roles are the most common path. Employers with structured hire pipelines are far more likely to initiate PERM than those treating the internship as temporary.
How does green card sponsorship differ from H-1B sponsorship for accounting interns?
H-1B sponsorship is temporary and subject to an annual lottery, while PERM-based green card sponsorship is permanent and has no lottery. EB-3 for most countries outside India and China does not face significant backlog, so the timeline from PERM approval to green card can be shorter than many applicants expect. The trade-off is that PERM takes 18 to 24 months to process before the I-140 and adjustment of status stages begin.
What does the PERM labor certification process require from an accounting intern's employer?
The employer must conduct a supervised recruitment campaign to confirm no qualified U.S. worker is available for the role. This includes posting the position through specific DOL-approved channels, documenting all applicants, and certifying the results to DOL. The job description filed with PERM must match the actual duties and minimum requirements of the accounting intern position without being inflated or tailored to a specific candidate.
How do I find accounting intern jobs where employers are open to green card sponsorship?
Start with Migrate Mate, which filters roles by employers who have previously filed employment-based green card petitions for accounting positions. This narrows your search to companies that already understand the PERM process rather than those who would need to be educated from scratch, which significantly improves your chances of a sponsorship conversation going anywhere.
Does my O*NET occupation classification affect my green card eligibility as an accounting intern?
It can. PERM filings reference SOC codes, and O*NET classifies accounting intern roles under categories that inform the job zone and typical education requirements. If your employer files under a SOC code that typically requires only a high school diploma, DOL may question why a bachelor's degree is listed as a minimum requirement, which could complicate the certification. Accurate classification protects the application.
