Translate your credentials into PERM language
PERM requires your degree field to match the job description. If your credentials are in student affairs, higher education, or counseling psychology, make sure your transcripts and credential evaluations use those exact terms before an employer submits the labor certification.
Target institutions with established immigration infrastructure
Universities and community colleges with dedicated HR offices and existing international staff pipelines process PERM filings far more smoothly than smaller institutions doing it for the first time. Ask directly whether the employer has filed EB-2 or EB-3 petitions before.
Understand the EB-2 versus EB-3 distinction for your role
If the posted job requires only a bachelor's degree, most employers will file under EB-3. Roles requiring a master's in counseling, higher education administration, or a related field may qualify for EB-2, which matters if your home country has a long EB-3 backlog.
Search sponsoring employers using Migrate Mate
Filter by institutions that have active PERM filings for Student Success Coordinator or related advising roles. Migrate Mate surfaces employers with green card sponsorship history, so you spend less time on outreach to institutions that have never sponsored foreign workers.
Negotiate green card sponsorship before accepting any offer
Once you sign an offer letter, your leverage drops. Clarify at the final interview stage whether the institution will file PERM, cover filing fees, and commit to completing the I-140 petition, since some smaller colleges sponsor but shift attorney costs to the employee.
Verify the prevailing wage for your specific campus location
PERM requires the employer to pay at least the DOL prevailing wage for your occupation and work site. Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up the wage level for your county before your interview, so you know whether an offer meets the threshold.

Find Student Success Coordinator JobsStudent Success Coordinator Green Card Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Do Student Success Coordinator roles actually qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Yes. Student Success Coordinator positions at accredited colleges and universities routinely qualify for employment-based green card sponsorship. Roles requiring a bachelor's degree typically fall under EB-3, while positions requiring a master's in higher education, counseling, or student affairs can qualify under EB-2. The employer must complete PERM labor certification with the DOL before filing the I-140 petition with USCIS.
How does the PERM green card process differ from H-1B sponsorship for this role?
H-1B is a temporary work visa with an annual cap and a lottery for most applicants, while PERM leads to permanent residency and has no annual cap at the petition stage. The tradeoff is timeline: PERM labor certification alone can take six to twelve months before USCIS even begins reviewing the I-140. For most countries except India and China, EB-3 priority dates move relatively quickly, making the green card path genuinely attainable for Student Success Coordinators.
Which types of U.S. employers are most likely to sponsor Student Success Coordinators for a green card?
Public and private four-year universities, community college systems, and large nonprofit educational networks are the most consistent sponsors. They typically have in-house immigration counsel or established relationships with immigration attorneys, which makes the PERM filing process more reliable. Smaller colleges and for-profit institutions sponsor less frequently, and when they do, the process is often slower and less structured.
How can I find Student Success Coordinator jobs that offer green card sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search. It filters by employers with active PERM or I-140 filing history, so you can identify institutions that have already sponsored foreign workers in advising or student affairs roles rather than guessing from a generic job listing. This saves significant time during what is already a long sponsorship process.
What happens to my green card sponsorship if I change employers during the process?
If you leave before USCIS approves your I-140, the sponsorship ends and your employer must restart the PERM process from scratch. Once your I-140 is approved and your priority date is current or nearly current, AC21 portability may allow you to transfer the petition to a new employer in a same or similar role without losing your place in the queue. Confirm with an immigration attorney before making any move.
