Verify your degree aligns with QA requirements
PERM requires your education to directly support the job duties. For QA Intern roles, a degree in engineering, computer science, or a related technical field strengthens your case. Mismatches between your transcript and the job description are a common denial trigger.
Target employers with established PERM filing history
Not every company that hires interns is set up to sponsor green cards. Search DOL PERM disclosure data to find manufacturing, pharmaceutical, and tech employers that have filed for QA roles before. Prior filings signal a legal team already familiar with the process.
Confirm the role is classified as permanent before accepting
PERM sponsorship requires the position to be a permanent, full-time opportunity. An internship that converts to a permanent role qualifies; a fixed-term contract does not. Clarify this distinction with the recruiter before any offer is extended.
Check prevailing wage requirements for your location
DOL sets prevailing wages by occupation and geography. Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up the wage level for your QA role in your specific metro area. Your employer must pay at or above this rate throughout the PERM and I-140 process.
Use Migrate Mate to find QA roles with green card sponsorship
Filtering job listings by sponsorship type saves significant time when you're targeting EB-3 pathways. Migrate Mate lets you search specifically for Quality Assurance roles where employers have an active green card sponsorship history, so you're not guessing at each application.
Understand PERM recruitment timing before your I-140 filing
USCIS requires DOL to certify PERM before your employer can file the I-140 immigrant petition. The recruitment phase alone can take several months, so your employer needs to start before your OPT or other work authorization expires to avoid a status gap.
Green Card Quality Assurance Intern: Frequently Asked Questions
Can a Quality Assurance Intern role qualify for EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Yes, provided the position is permanent and full-time and your employer can demonstrate through the PERM labor certification process that no qualified U.S. worker is available. QA roles that require a bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, or a related technical discipline typically fit the EB-3 professional category, which covers degree-holding workers in specialty positions.
How does green card sponsorship through PERM differ from H-1B sponsorship for this role?
H-1B visa is a temporary work visa subject to an annual lottery cap, while EB-3 green card sponsorship through PERM leads to lawful permanent residency with no annual cap for most countries. The PERM process involves DOL labor certification followed by an I-140 petition and adjustment of status, making it a longer but permanent pathway compared to the H-1B's six-year initial limit.
What educational background does PERM require for a QA Intern sponsored for a green card?
DOL requires that the education listed in the PERM application directly relates to the QA job duties. A degree in quality engineering, industrial engineering, computer science, or a closely related field is typically acceptable. If your degree is in a less directly related discipline, your employer's attorney may need to document how your coursework supports the specific QA responsibilities in the role.
Where can I find Quality Assurance Intern jobs that offer green card sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically to surface jobs where employers have documented green card sponsorship history. Because standard job boards don't filter by PERM filing history, most foreign professionals waste time applying to employers who have never sponsored a green card. Searching through a sponsorship-focused platform significantly narrows your list to genuinely viable opportunities.
How long does the green card process typically take for a sponsored QA Intern role?
The full process from PERM filing through adjustment of status commonly takes two to four years for applicants from most countries, though nationals from India and China face significantly longer waits due to per-country visa backlogs. PERM recruitment and certification alone can take six to twelve months before your employer even files the I-140 petition with USCIS, so starting early relative to your current work authorization matters.
