Target institutions with established PERM history
Community colleges and vocational schools that regularly hire foreign faculty are far more likely to have HR staff experienced in PERM filings. Search DOL disclosure data to find schools that have filed PERM applications for instructor-level roles in the past three years.
Use O*NET to frame your specialty occupation case
HVAC Instructors map to vocational education teacher occupations in O*NET. Pull the specific knowledge, skills, and training requirements listed there and use that language in your resume and cover letter to align your background with the PERM job description.
Verify prevailing wage before negotiating your offer
Your employer must pay at least the DOL prevailing wage for HVAC Instructor roles in their metro area. Check the OFLC Wage Search for the wage level tied to your experience before you receive a formal offer, so you can spot underpayments early.
Find green-card-sponsoring employers through Migrate Mate
Search Migrate Mate to filter HVAC Instructor openings by employers with active PERM and I-140 filing history. This cuts out guesswork about whether a school or training center is actually willing and equipped to sponsor permanent residency.
Understand how PERM recruitment timing affects your start date
Once your employer begins the PERM process, DOL requires them to run a specific recruitment campaign before filing. That window typically adds several months before your I-140 can be submitted, so align your expected start date with your employer accordingly.

Find HVAC Instructor JobsHVAC Instructor Green Card Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Can an HVAC Instructor role qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Yes. HVAC Instructor positions at accredited trade schools, community colleges, and technical training centers routinely qualify under both EB-2 and EB-3. EB-3 applies when the role requires a bachelor's degree or its equivalent in a relevant field. EB-2 applies if your employer requires an advanced degree or you hold specialized credentials that set you apart from the general applicant pool.
How does PERM green card sponsorship differ from H-1B for HVAC Instructor jobs?
PERM sponsorship leads to permanent residency rather than a temporary work visa, and it has no annual lottery. The H-1B has an 85,000-cap lottery that excludes many applicants, while EB-3 PERM sponsorship carries no comparable numerical cap for most countries. The tradeoff is timeline: PERM labor certification, followed by I-140 adjudication and adjustment of status, typically takes two to four years or longer depending on your country of birth and current USCIS processing volumes.
What does my employer actually have to do during the PERM process?
Your employer must conduct a DOL-supervised recruitment campaign to demonstrate that no qualified U.S. worker is available for the position. This includes placing job ads, reviewing applications, and documenting their results. Once recruitment is complete, they file the PERM application with DOL. If certified, they can then file an I-140 immigrant petition with USCIS on your behalf. The entire employer-side process usually takes six to twelve months before your green card case can advance.
Where can I find HVAC Instructor jobs where employers are already open to green card sponsorship?
Migrate Mate lets you search HVAC Instructor openings filtered by employers with documented PERM and I-140 filing history, so you're not cold-applying to institutions that have never navigated employment-based sponsorship. Targeting employers who have done this before significantly shortens the internal approval process on their end.
Does my country of birth affect my green card timeline as an HVAC Instructor?
Yes. Workers born in countries with high demand for employment-based visas, particularly India and China, face significantly longer waits due to per-country limits under U.S. immigration law. If you were born in a lower-demand country, your priority date will likely become current much faster after your I-140 is approved. Check the USCIS Visa Bulletin regularly to track when your category and country cutoff date becomes current.
