Benchmark your credentials against EB-2 requirements
Tax Manager roles typically qualify under EB-3 with a bachelor's degree, but a master's in taxation or accounting, or a CPA license, can position you for EB-2 advanced-degree classification, which shortens your green card timeline in many backlog countries.
Target employers with active PERM filing history
Search OFLC disclosure data for employers who have filed PERM applications for Tax Manager or Senior Tax Analyst roles in the past two years. Repeat PERM filers have established internal workflows and are far less likely to abandon a sponsorship mid-process.
Find green card sponsoring tax employers on Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate filters Tax Manager roles by EB-2 and EB-3 sponsorship history so you're not guessing which employers will support PERM. Use it to identify companies that have completed the full sponsorship cycle for accounting and tax professionals.
Negotiate PERM start timing before accepting an offer
PERM labor certification can take 18 months or longer when audits occur. Ask prospective employers whether they'll file within the first year of employment, since many companies delay without an explicit agreement negotiated at the offer stage.
Verify your job duties align with the PERM job description
DOL audits Tax Manager PERM applications closely when duties overlap with general management. Ensure your official job description references specialized tax skills like ASC 740 compliance, transfer pricing, or international tax reporting to withstand a recruitment audit.
Check your priority date against the Visa Bulletin each month
EB-3 priority dates for India and China can lag by a decade or more. Once your I-140 is approved by USCIS, track the monthly Visa Bulletin to know when your priority date becomes current and you can file your I-485 adjustment of status.
Green Card Tax Manager: Frequently Asked Questions
Do Tax Manager roles qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Most Tax Manager positions qualify under EB-3 as a professional role requiring at least a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field. If the position requires a master's degree or you hold one and the employer can justify the advanced-degree requirement, EB-2 classification is possible and can reduce your wait time if your country has a shorter EB-2 backlog than EB-3.
How does green card sponsorship differ from H-1B sponsorship for Tax Managers?
H-1B visa sponsorship is temporary, capped at 65,000 slots annually, and subject to a lottery. Green card sponsorship through EB-2 or EB-3 has no annual cap on I-140 approvals, and EB-3 currently has no backlog for most countries outside India and China. The PERM process is more document-intensive than H-1B, but the outcome is permanent residency rather than a renewable temporary status.
What does the PERM labor certification process require for a Tax Manager position?
Your employer must conduct a supervised recruitment campaign, typically lasting 30 to 60 days, to demonstrate no minimally qualified U.S. workers applied. DOL reviews the job description, minimum requirements, and recruitment results before certifying the application. Tax Manager roles that list overly narrow requirements, such as experience with a specific proprietary software, are common audit triggers.
How can I find Tax Manager jobs that offer green card sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search. It surfaces Tax Manager roles from employers with documented EB-2 and EB-3 sponsorship history, so you can focus your applications on companies that have successfully completed the PERM process for accounting and tax professionals before, rather than relying on vague job posting language about sponsorship willingness.
Can a Tax Manager on an H-1B start the green card process without changing jobs?
Yes. Your current employer can file a PERM application while you remain on H-1B status. Once your I-140 is approved and your priority date is current under the Visa Bulletin, you file Form I-485 to adjust to permanent resident status without leaving the country or changing employers. USCIS allows you to maintain H-1B status throughout this process as long as your status remains valid.
