Bookkeeper Green Card Jobs
Bookkeeper roles qualify for EB-3 green card sponsorship when employers file PERM labor certification with the DOL, demonstrating no qualified U.S. workers are available. Some candidates with a bachelor's degree in accounting or finance may qualify under EB-2. The process leads to permanent residency, not a temporary work authorization.

Document your accounting credentials thoroughly
PERM requires your employer to verify you meet the minimum job requirements. Gather transcripts, professional certifications like CPA or bookkeeping credentials, and employment letters that spell out your specific duties and software proficiencies before applying.
Search Migrate Mate for sponsoring bookkeeper roles
Use Migrate Mate to filter bookkeeper openings by employers with active green card filing history. This saves you from cold-applying to firms with no PERM experience and puts you in front of employers already familiar with the sponsorship process.
Target mid-size accounting firms over solo practices
Solo practitioners and very small CPA firms rarely have the HR infrastructure or legal budget to manage PERM filings. Mid-size regional firms and corporate accounting departments sponsor more consistently and have established relationships with immigration counsel.
Confirm the offered wage meets OFLC prevailing rates
Before accepting an offer, cross-check the salary against the OFLC Wage Search for your job zone and location. PERM certification requires the employer to pay at least the prevailing wage, and a below-threshold offer will stall the entire filing.
Ask employers about their PERM recruitment timeline
PERM requires DOL-mandated recruitment steps that take 60 to 90 days before the employer can even file. Ask during the offer stage whether they've started or can start this process, since delays there push back your I-140 and adjustment of status filing dates.
Understand EB-2 eligibility if you hold an advanced degree
Bookkeepers with a master's degree in accounting or finance, or a bachelor's plus five years of progressive experience, may qualify under EB-2 rather than EB-3. EB-2 can offer shorter priority date waits for some nationalities, so confirm your degree classification with your sponsoring employer's immigration attorney.

Does a bookkeeper role qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Most bookkeeper positions qualify under EB-3, which covers skilled workers requiring at least two years of training or experience. If the role requires a bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field, it may also qualify under EB-3 professionals. Candidates holding a master's degree or equivalent advanced credentials could qualify under EB-2, though the employer must structure the job requirements accordingly in the PERM filing.
How is the green card sponsorship process different from H-1B for bookkeeper roles?
The EB-3 green card path through PERM has no annual lottery and is permanent rather than temporary. H-1B requires a specialty occupation determination and subjects you to a random selection lottery each year. PERM takes longer overall, often 18 to 36 months or more from start to green card approval, but results in lawful permanent residency and isn't subject to the cap anxieties that affect H-1B holders each spring.
What does the PERM labor certification process involve for bookkeeper positions?
Your employer files an Application for Permanent Employment Certification with the DOL, which requires them to conduct a supervised recruitment campaign proving no minimally qualified U.S. worker applied for the role. This recruitment period alone takes 60 to 90 days. After DOL certifies the PERM, your employer files an I-140 immigrant petition with USCIS, and you can then pursue adjustment of status or consular processing depending on your current immigration situation.
How do I find bookkeeper employers that actually sponsor green cards?
Search Migrate Mate to identify bookkeeper openings filtered by employers with documented green card sponsorship activity. Many employers are willing to sponsor but don't advertise it prominently, and smaller firms may not have filed before but will consider it for the right candidate. Targeting mid-size accounting firms, corporate finance departments, and regional CPA firms tends to yield the strongest sponsorship pipeline.
Can my bookkeeper job title affect my priority date or green card timeline?
Your job title itself doesn't determine your priority date, but your country of birth does. For candidates born in India or China, EB-3 priority date backlogs can extend wait times by years even after PERM and I-140 approval. Candidates born in most other countries typically see much shorter waits. USCIS publishes a monthly Visa Bulletin that shows current priority dates by category and country, which your employer's immigration attorney should track throughout the process.
