Verify your role meets specialty occupation
Collections Representative positions vary widely. Roles at banks, healthcare systems, or financial services firms that require a business or finance degree qualify. General call-center collections roles that accept any background often don't. Check O*NET to confirm the occupation's typical education requirements before applying.
Target employers with LCA filing history
Search Migrate Mate's employer database to identify companies that have filed Labor Condition Applications for Collections Representative or related finance roles. Employers with H-1B filing history have already built the internal process, reducing the risk they'll back out after an offer.
Document your degree's field-of-study match
USCIS scrutinizes whether your specific degree directly relates to collections work. A finance, accounting, business administration, or economics degree strengthens your petition. If your degree is in an unrelated field, gather documentation showing coursework overlap with financial analysis or credit management.
Ask about LCA filing timing before accepting offers
Your employer must file and receive a certified LCA from DOL before submitting your H-1B petition to USCIS. Confirm the employer knows this sequence and has legal counsel ready. Delays in LCA certification can push your start date past your current status expiration.
Check prevailing wage before your salary negotiation
Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up the prevailing wage for Collections Representative roles in your specific metro area. Your offered salary must meet at least the Level I wage for the SOC code. Negotiating below that threshold makes your petition noncompliant regardless of what you accept.
Confirm E-Verify enrollment if you're on OPT
If you're transitioning from OPT to H-1B, your employer must be E-Verify enrolled to maintain your authorization during the cap-gap period between your OPT expiration and October 1. Verify this enrollment status before your H-1B petition is filed, not after.

Find Collections Representative JobsCollections Representative H-1B Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Collections Representative role qualify for H-1B sponsorship?
It depends on how the role is defined. Collections Representative positions at banks, healthcare revenue cycle departments, or structured finance firms that require a bachelor's degree in business, finance, or accounting can qualify as specialty occupations under H-1B. Roles where a degree in any field is acceptable, or where no degree is required, typically don't meet USCIS's specialty occupation standard.
Which industries sponsor H-1B visas for collections roles?
Financial services companies, hospital systems with large billing departments, credit card issuers, and debt management firms are the most consistent sponsors for this occupation. These employers often have dedicated immigration counsel and established LCA filing processes. You can browse verified H-1B sponsoring employers for Collections Representative roles on Migrate Mate.
What happens to my H-1B status if I switch collections employers?
H-1B portability under AC21 lets you start working for a new employer once they file a new H-1B transfer petition, as long as your original petition was approved and you've been in valid H-1B status. The new employer files a new I-129 and LCA. You don't need to restart the cap process, but the new role must still qualify as a specialty occupation.
Can my employer sponsor me for a green card from a Collections Representative role?
Yes, most collections roles in financial services or healthcare qualify for PERM-based green card sponsorship through the EB-3 category. Your employer would need to complete a PERM labor market test through DOL and demonstrate no qualified U.S. workers were available. Processing timelines vary significantly based on your country of birth and current priority dates.
What SOC code covers Collections Representative roles for LCA purposes?
Most Collections Representative positions file under SOC code 43-3011 (Bill and Account Collectors) or 13-2071 (Credit Analysts) depending on how the employer defines the role. The SOC code determines the prevailing wage your employer must certify on the LCA. Verify which code your employer is using and cross-check the wage level against the OFLC Wage Search before signing an offer.
