GENERAL SUMMARY
The vocational consultant is responsible for reviewing, analyzing and interpreting vocational and medical information. Works collaboratively with claims professionals and other resources in multiple settings to assess vocational information and provides vocational opinion on duties and demands. Engages employers, claimants, healthcare providers and internal resources to facilitate return to work and stay at work services. Delivers exceptional service in every interaction, taking full accountability for a positive experience.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Application of vocational knowledge through assessment and synthesis of claim file information and ability to offer balanced conclusions
- Ability to concisely communicate (written and verbally) complex vocational issues in a fast-paced, team work environment
- Partners with multiple resources to identify, develop, coordinate and implement complex vocational rehabilitation and return to work plans
- Collaboration with internal and external resources to gather pertinent vocational and medical documentation to accurately assess file direction
- Completes comprehensive forensic vocational assessments
- Provides coaching of claims professionals to increase vocational knowledge
- Operates with a sense of urgency and flexibility to meet the needs of a rapidly changing environment, while meeting performance standards set for quality and quantity of work
- Displays capacity and drive for learning and developing broad business and leadership skills; openness to diverse ideas & experiences and has self-awareness re: strengths and areas of development
- Required to maintain professional certifications, stays abreast of new trends in the vocational field and completes other required educational activities
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
- Master’s degree in Vocational Rehabilitation or a related field
- Certification required in rehabilitation counseling, disability management, or case management
- 3+ years vocational experience preferred
- Proven ability to work in a fast-paced, team environment
COMPENSATION
The base salary range for applicants for this position is listed below. Unless actual salary is indicated above in the job description, actual pay will be based on skill, geographical location and experience.
- $53,300.00-$100,700.00
Additionally, Unum offers a portfolio of benefits and rewards that are competitive and comprehensive including healthcare benefits (health, vision, dental), insurance benefits (short & long-term disability), performance-based incentive plans, paid time off, and a 401(k) retirement plan with an employer match up to 5% and an additional 4.5% contribution whether you contribute to the plan or not. All benefits are subject to the terms and conditions of individual Plans.
