RINA is currently recruiting for a Senior Highway Engineer to join its office in Chicago or Lisle, IL within the Civil Engineering Division.
Qualified candidates must have a Professional Engineering License (PE) in Illinois.
Compensation Data
$112,000 - $150,000 commensurate with education and experience.
Mission
Join our expanding Highway/Roadway team and play a key role in delivering studies and contract plans for high-visibility transportation projects. As a Senior Engineer, you’ll be the technical design leader and be involved in providing solutions from concept design phase through final contract delivery, collaborate closely with project leadership, and mentor developing engineers. You’ll support the team while engaging with the client, participate in proposals and project strategy development, and help in the expansion of our regional footprint - all while balancing hands-on engineering with leadership influence.
Key Accountabilities
- Design development, design documentation, and development of other documents associated with highway design, such as specifications, quantities, etc., in collaboration with a Project Manager.
- Collaborate with other design engineers on the project team, maintaining effective communication with team members, other disciplines, subconsultants, project stakeholders, and clients.
- Coordinate with drafters, technicians, and staff engineers within the project team.
- Complete project deliverables/project commitments within the defined scope, budget, and schedule.
- Review deliverable for consistency accuracy of information shown by multiple design disciplines.
- Establish in coordination with the project manager project guideline documents including design criteria, production milestones, and communication protocol.
- Utilize Bentley software products to generate project deliverable and perform engineering tasks.
- Comply with company safety and security procedures.
Qualifications
- BS in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited institution.
- Illinois Professional Engineering (PE) License.
- 10+ years of experience in design engineering, preferably on IDOT, Tollway, large Illinois municipal projects, or other roadway transportation projects. Experience with traffic engineering and/or traffic signal design is a plus.
- Proficiency in MicroStation OpenRoads Designer and Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to work cross-functionally and coordinate with others on larger, multidiscipline projects.
- Proficiency in standard engineering procedures and project development methodologies and techniques.
- Working knowledge of other computer-aided design software and other PC software packages typically associated with engineering required (i.e., AutoCAD, Civil 3D, BIM, etc.) is a plus.
- Able to effectively communicate with others in office or remotely using Microsoft Teams, email, and phone calls.

- Valid driver’s license.
- Local or regional travel (i.e. job sites) anticipated based upon business need.
