- Plan and run company events, team outings, and milestones worth marking, from birthdays and work anniversaries to team wins.
- Manage executive and team calendars, meeting logistics, and travel, and get new hires set up from desk to first-day logistics so they feel welcome from minute one.

HR Director Jobs in Chicago: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a hr director job in Chicago?
Focus your search on Chicago's densest hiring pockets: the Loop's financial and professional services firms, the Medical District's hospital systems, and the tech-forward employers in Fulton Market. Candidates who stand out locally combine strategic HR leadership experience with knowledge of Illinois employment law and a network in Chicago's tight-knit HR community, often built through SHRM Chicago events or the city's major industry associations.
Which companies hire hr directors in Chicago?
Companies currently hiring hr directors in Chicago include Amgen, OpenGov, and RLDatix, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Chicago's market reflects its economic diversity, with openings spread across large financial institutions headquartered downtown, major hospital networks, global logistics firms, and a growing base of mid-size tech and professional services companies.
Are there remote hr director jobs in Chicago?
Yes, though at the director level most roles remain hybrid because the position involves direct employee relations, leadership presence, and on-site executive collaboration. About 71% of hr director openings tied to Chicago are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, with the most flexibility in compensation and benefits strategy roles rather than those requiring day-to-day floor presence or labor relations work.
How can I get a hr director job in Chicago with little or no experience?
The most realistic path is moving up from an HR manager or senior HR business partner role inside a Chicago-area employer, particularly in healthcare systems, logistics companies, or mid-size professional services firms that promote from within. Building Chicago-specific credentials, such as involvement with SHRM Chicago or experience managing Illinois-specific compliance like the Chicago Human Rights Ordinance, helps differentiate candidates competing for their first director title locally.
Which industries hire the most hr directors in Chicago?
Chicago hr director roles concentrate in Accounting & Auditing and Investment & Asset Management, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Chicago's role as a hub for financial trading, national healthcare networks, and corporate headquarters for logistics and manufacturing firms drives consistent demand for senior HR leadership across those sectors.
