Consulting Analyst Jobs in Illinois: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a consulting analyst in Illinois?
Most consulting analyst roles in Illinois require a bachelor's degree in business, economics, finance, or a related field, with top firms also recruiting from MBA programs at schools like the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and Northwestern's Kellogg School of Management. No state-issued license is required for the role itself, but Illinois-based analysts working in specialized areas such as healthcare consulting may benefit from credentials like the Certified Management Consultant designation offered through the Institute of Management Consultants.
How much do consulting analysts make in Illinois?
Consulting analysts in Illinois earn a median of about $104,270 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $57,610 for the lowest 10% to over $175,360 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire consulting analysts in Illinois?
Employers hiring consulting analysts in Illinois right now include Sargent & Lundy, Codal, and J.S. Held, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Illinois's concentration of Fortune 500 headquarters and large financial institutions makes it one of the more active states for consulting analyst recruitment outside of the coasts.
Which Illinois cities have the most consulting analyst jobs?
Chicago, Bloomington, and Fairview Heights lead Illinois for consulting analyst openings. Chicago drives the bulk of demand as home to major consulting firm offices, financial services companies, and corporate headquarters, while Naperville and Schaumburg attract openings through the large technology and manufacturing campuses located along the I-88 corridor west of the city.
Are there remote consulting analyst jobs in Illinois?
Yes, and more than most fields. Consulting analyst work is largely desk-based and output-driven, making it well suited to remote and hybrid arrangements. About 67% of consulting analyst openings tied to Illinois are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting broader industry norms. Research, data modeling, and report development are the tasks most commonly performed fully remotely, while client-facing strategy sessions and presentations are more likely to require in-person presence.
How can I get hired as a consulting analyst in Illinois with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying directly to analyst or associate programs at large Illinois consulting and financial services firms, many of which recruit from Illinois universities year-round. Accenture, Deloitte, and PwC all run structured new-graduate analyst programs that accept candidates without prior consulting experience. Adjacent roles such as business analyst, data analyst, or financial analyst at Illinois-based corporations also serve as a common lateral entry point. Building a portfolio of case study work or earning a Project Management Professional certification strengthens an application considerably.
