Workday Consultant Jobs in Illinois: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a workday consultant in Illinois?
The most direct path is completing Workday's own certification program, which covers specific modules like HCM, Financials, or Payroll and is recognized by Illinois employers as the primary credential. Illinois does not require a state-issued license for this role. Most candidates enter through a relevant degree in IT, HR, or business, then build Workday exposure through an implementation partner, a large employer's internal IT team, or a Workday partner firm based in the Chicago metro area.
How much do workday consultants make in Illinois?
Workday consultants in Illinois earn a median of about $99,360 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $53,590 for the lowest 10% to over $167,080 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire workday consultants in Illinois?
Employers hiring workday consultants in Illinois right now include Huron Consulting, Workday, and Strada, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Illinois's concentration of corporate headquarters and regional offices for large enterprises and consulting firms keeps demand for experienced Workday talent consistently high throughout the year.
Which Illinois cities have the most workday consultant jobs?
The cities with the most workday consultant openings in Illinois are Chicago and Illinois. Chicago dominates because it hosts the headquarters or major regional offices of Fortune 500 companies and the largest Big Four and boutique consulting practices, while suburban hubs like Downers Grove and Schaumburg draw demand from healthcare networks and manufacturing firms that have standardized on Workday.
Are there remote workday consultant jobs in Illinois?
Yes, and more than most fields. Workday consulting is largely analytical and system-based, making it well suited to remote and hybrid arrangements. About 40% of workday consultant openings tied to Illinois are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting how normalized distributed work has become in enterprise software roles. Configuration, testing, and training tasks are the most commonly performed remotely, while go-live support and executive-facing workshops tend to require on-site presence.
How can I get hired as a workday consultant in Illinois with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is joining an Illinois-based Workday implementation partner as a junior functional analyst, where firms like Accenture's Chicago office and regional boutique partners actively onboard recent graduates and upskill them on live projects. Adjacent roles in HRIS administration, enterprise software support, or business systems analysis at large Illinois healthcare networks or financial services firms also provide a credible bridge. Completing Workday's foundation training and earning an entry-level module certification before applying gives candidates a measurable edge over those with no documented Workday exposure.
