HVAC Jobs in Chicago: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a hvac job in Chicago?
Focus your search on Chicago's dense commercial corridor downtown and the expanding medical campuses in Streeterville and the Illinois Medical District, where hvac demand stays consistently high. Property management firms overseeing high-rise residential towers in River North and the South Loop are also steady hirers. Candidates with refrigeration certification, building automation system experience, or a union card through Local 597 stand out in this market.
Which companies hire hvacs in Chicago?
Employers hiring hvacs in Chicago right now include Johnstone Supply, JLL, and Bosch, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Chicago's market skews toward large commercial property managers, hospital networks, and mechanical contractors serving the city's high-density construction pipeline.
Are there remote hvac jobs in Chicago?
Yes, though remote work is rare for hands-on installation and service roles and more common for estimation, project coordination, and controls engineering positions. About 13% of hvac openings tied to Chicago are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting the desk-based side of the trade. Controls specialists and project managers working with building automation systems are most likely to find hybrid arrangements with Chicago employers.
How can I get a hvac job in Chicago with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Chicago is a registered apprenticeship through Sheet Metal Workers Local 73 or Pipefitters Local 597, both of which place apprentices with union contractors across the city. Facilities maintenance roles at Chicago's large hotel groups, university campuses, and CHA housing developments also hire entry-level helpers. Coming in with OSHA-10 certification and EPA 608 already completed gives applicants a concrete edge over other entry-level candidates.
