Industrial Designer Jobs in Oklahoma: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a industrial designer in Oklahoma?
Industrial design in Oklahoma does not require a state-issued license, so the path runs through education and portfolio development. Most employers expect a bachelor's degree in industrial design, product design, or a related engineering discipline from an accredited program such as those at the University of Oklahoma or Oklahoma State University. Building a strong portfolio of completed projects, including any internship work with Oklahoma manufacturers or aerospace suppliers, is the most effective way to meet hiring expectations.
How much do industrial designers make in Oklahoma?
Industrial designers in Oklahoma earn a median of about $76,640 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $48,930 for the lowest 10% to over $122,370 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire industrial designers in Oklahoma?
Oklahoma industrial designer roles are posted by HSM Solutions, OTC Industrial Technologies, and Pregis and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Oklahoma's aerospace and advanced manufacturing base, particularly in the Tulsa and Oklahoma City corridors, drives a consistent share of these openings year-round.
Which Oklahoma cities have the most industrial designer jobs?
Tulsa, Oklahoma City, and Bethany hold the most industrial designer openings in Oklahoma. Oklahoma City and Tulsa lead because of their concentration of aerospace manufacturers, defense contractors, and consumer products companies, while smaller cities on the list typically reflect a single large manufacturing employer or a campus of a major industrial operation anchoring local demand.
Are there remote industrial designer jobs in Oklahoma?
Yes, but they're rare. Industrial design work frequently requires hands-on prototyping, lab access, and close collaboration with manufacturing teams, which limits remote flexibility. About 50% of industrial designer openings tied to Oklahoma are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, which is lower than in purely digital fields. The portions of the role most suited to remote work are early-stage concept sketching, CAD modeling, and design documentation review.
How can I get hired as a industrial designer in Oklahoma with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is an internship or co-op with an Oklahoma aerospace or manufacturing employer during your degree program, which frequently converts to a full-time role. Spirit AeroSystems and Nordam Group both work with Oklahoma university programs to source entry-level candidates, and applying to their internship pipelines directly is the clearest route in. Adjacent roles such as drafting technician, CAD designer, or product development associate are common lateral entry points. A focused portfolio showing completed concept-to-prototype projects, even from coursework, carries significant weight when competing without professional experience.
Where can I find and apply to industrial designer jobs in Oklahoma?
You can find and apply to industrial designer jobs in Oklahoma on Migrate Mate, which lists current Oklahoma openings. Search for roles that match your experience level and specialization, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
