Architect Jobs in Oklahoma: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a architect in Oklahoma?
To become a licensed architect in Oklahoma, you must earn a professional degree from an NAAB-accredited program, complete the required experience hours through the Architectural Experience Program, and pass all divisions of the Architect Registration Examination. Licensure is issued by the Oklahoma Board of Architects, Landscape Architects and Registered Interior Designers. Oklahoma participates in reciprocity agreements, so candidates licensed in other states may apply for recognition without retaking exams.
How much do architects make in Oklahoma?
Architects in Oklahoma earn a median of about $100,350 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $55,040 for the lowest 10% to over $165,790 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire architects in Oklahoma?
Employers hiring architects in Oklahoma right now include Koch, AAON, and Goldbelt, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Oklahoma's public-sector and tribal nation construction programs keep institutional firms and government contractors among the most consistent hirers in the state.
Which Oklahoma cities have the most architect jobs?
Tulsa, Oklahoma City, and Norman account for the largest share of architect openings in Oklahoma. Oklahoma City leads because of its concentration of state government facilities, healthcare campuses, and ongoing downtown redevelopment, while Tulsa draws demand from energy-sector corporate campuses and the region's higher education and cultural institutions.
Are there remote architect jobs in Oklahoma?
Yes, but they're rare. About 20% of architect openings tied to Oklahoma are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting the hands-on, site-coordination nature of most architectural work. The roles most likely to offer remote or hybrid arrangements are those focused on design development, BIM production, or specification writing rather than construction administration.
How can I get hired as a architect in Oklahoma with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is an architectural intern or designer role at a mid-size Oklahoma firm while completing Architectural Experience Program hours toward licensure. Firms like Frankfurt Short Bruza and Crafton Tull have historically brought on recent graduates in junior design and drafting capacities. Building a focused portfolio of academic or volunteer projects, obtaining your NCARB record early, and targeting the institutional and civic project types that dominate Oklahoma procurement all strengthen a candidate's profile before full licensure.
