About InsForge
InsForge (https://insforge.dev/) is an agent-native cloud infrastructure platform. Think AWS or GCP, but built for AI coding agents to operate end to end.
About the role
Building an agent-native cloud requires rethinking traditional infrastructure.
You’re not simply deploying containers—you’ll build the runtime that schedules workloads, manages networking, provisions compute, scales infrastructure, and gives AI agents the APIs they need to operate production systems.
You’ll work across Linux, virtualization, networking, storage, distributed systems, and our control plane to make infrastructure that is reliable enough that developers never have to think about it.
This is a high-impact, high-ownership role with direct influence over the architecture and future of InsForge. You get to work directly with founders!
What you'll do
Work directly with the founders to design and build the compute runtime powering InsForge
Own major infrastructure systems from initial architecture through production
Build container scheduling, placement, autoscaling, and lifecycle management
Improve cold starts, provisioning speed, and deployment reliability
Design systems for both stateful and stateless workloads
Build networking primitives, including service discovery, load balancing, and private networking
Work deeply with Linux, containers, microVMs, and virtualization technologies
Optimize storage systems, snapshots, cloning, and persistent volumes
Improve platform observability, debugging, monitoring, and operational tooling
Write design documents and turn proposals into reliable production systems
Help shape the engineering culture, technical standards, and infrastructure roadmap as an early member of the team
We’re looking for founding engineers who enjoy building infrastructure from first principles and want meaningful ownership over both the technology and the company.
What we're looking for
You probably have:
A strong understanding of distributed systems
Experience building production infrastructure or platform software
Deep knowledge of Linux internals
Experience with containers, Kubernetes, Docker, Firecracker, or other virtualization technologies
Familiarity with networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, routing, load balancing, DNS, and service discovery
Excellent written communication and system design skills
The ability to operate with high autonomy, make pragmatic technical decisions, and take systems from idea to production
A desire to work closely with the founders and help shape the product, architecture, and engineering organization
Bonus points:
Experience building agent-native infrastructure, AI developer platforms, or tools designed for AI coding agents
Pay: $40,000.00 - $150,000.00 per year
Work Location: In person

Infrastructure Engineer Jobs in San Francisco: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a infrastructure engineer job in San Francisco?
Focus your search on SoMa and Mission Bay, where cloud platforms, fintech firms, and enterprise software companies concentrate most of their infrastructure hiring. Candidates with hands-on Kubernetes, Terraform, or cloud networking experience stand out in this market. Targeting mid-size tech companies and financial services firms in the Financial District also opens doors, since both sectors hire infrastructure engineers at multiple seniority levels year-round.
Which companies hire infrastructure engineers in San Francisco?
San Francisco infrastructure engineer roles are posted by OpenAI, JPMorganChase, and Anthropic and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. San Francisco's mix of hyperscale tech firms, fintech scaleups, and healthcare technology companies means openings appear across a wide range of employer sizes and verticals.
Are there remote infrastructure engineer jobs in San Francisco?
Yes, though availability depends on the specialty. Roles involving hands-on data center work, physical network configuration, or on-site hardware are almost always in-person, while cloud infrastructure and DevOps-focused positions are more likely to offer flexibility. About 41% of infrastructure engineer openings tied to San Francisco are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, with cloud and platform engineering roles making up the largest share of those flexible positions.
How can I get a infrastructure engineer job in San Francisco with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in San Francisco is a junior systems administrator or IT operations role at a mid-size tech company or startup in SoMa, which often transitions into infrastructure work within one to two years. San Francisco's dense startup ecosystem hires generalist engineers who can grow into infrastructure specialists, making smaller companies a stronger starting point than large enterprises. Building proficiency with AWS, GCP, or Azure before applying sharpens any entry-level application considerably.
Which industries hire the most infrastructure engineers in San Francisco?
Most infrastructure engineer openings in San Francisco sit in Technology & Software, Science & Research, and Artificial Intelligence, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. San Francisco's concentration of cloud-native technology companies and regulated financial services firms drives consistent infrastructure hiring, since both sectors require reliable, scalable systems built and maintained by dedicated engineering teams.
