If you answered “yes” to these questions, then you owe it to yourself to learn more about becoming a Shelter Insurance® Agent.
At Shelter, we do not require a previous background in the insurance industry. While the experience is a plus, it is far from a necessity. Around half of our new Shelter Agents have never worked in insurance; our agents have backgrounds ranging from real estate and retail sales to education and coaching.
What is required? A motivated attitude, an entrepreneurial spirit, and skilled capacity for effectively communicating with clients in a sales atmosphere.
While some sales experience & a degree with general business courses is helpful, our mix of in-house and virtual new agent training schools, paired with continuing industry education courses, helps you build the foundation necessary to launch your agency.
At Shelter we do not require prospective agents to have capital/assets on hand to be considered for an agency. We do not “sell” agencies and Shelter does not “loan” money to agents to begin their business. We provide the opportunity. The only expectations are that you meet sufficient sales requirements and core business proficiencies. If you are no longer a Shelter agent for any reason, your financial responsibilities are limited to any unsatisfied bills owed through your departure. This could include advertising contracts, telephone bills, and utilities.
A true business owner’s mindset is required to succeed! While developing prospects and selling Shelter products in your agency will be your main focus, you may also have the opportunity to bring on staff to help you perform general administrative duties and improve your sales.
If you possess a strong desire to be a business owner, a vigorous passion for helping people, and a desire to work for a company that strives to be a leader in its communities, then take the first steps to explore a partnership with Shelter Insurance Companies. Insurance Sales Agent Jobs in Oklahoma City: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get an insurance sales agent job in Oklahoma City?
The strongest entry points in Oklahoma City are independent agencies serving the metro's large suburban homeowner base, regional carriers with commercial lines teams downtown, and health-focused brokerages tied to the medical corridor near Midtown. Candidates who already hold a Property and Casualty or Life and Health license move faster through hiring. Familiarity with Oklahoma City's storm and tornado exposure gives applicants a genuine edge with personal and commercial property accounts.
Which companies hire insurance sales agents in Oklahoma City?
Oklahoma City insurance sales agent roles are posted by State Farm, TTEC, and Aaa Club Alliance and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. The local market includes a mix of national carriers with regional offices, independent agency groups serving suburban neighborhoods, and benefits brokerages connected to the city's growing healthcare and energy employer base.
Are there remote insurance sales agent jobs in Oklahoma City?
Yes, though remote availability depends heavily on the type of work, with inside sales and employee benefits roles more likely to offer flexibility than field-based personal lines positions. About 33% of insurance sales agent openings tied to Oklahoma City are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting a mix of client-facing and office-based roles. Telephone-based final expense and Medicare supplement sales represent the most consistently remote segment in the Oklahoma City market.
How can I get an insurance sales agent job in Oklahoma City with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Oklahoma City is joining a captive carrier that runs its own training program, since several national insurers operating in the metro hire unlicensed candidates and cover licensing costs. Entry roles like customer service representative or insurance service specialist at local independent agencies frequently lead to licensed sales positions within six to twelve months. Volunteering with community organizations in neighborhoods like Edmond or Moore, where homeowner insurance demand is high, builds the referral network that helps newer agents close their first accounts.
Which industries hire the most insurance sales agents in Oklahoma City?
The sectors hiring the most insurance sales agents in Oklahoma City are Insurance, Hospitality & Tourism, and Consulting & Professional Services, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Oklahoma City's energy sector, large suburban homeowner population, and concentration of healthcare employers create sustained demand for commercial property, group benefits, and individual health coverage specialists across the metro.
