Investment Jobs in Chicago: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a investment job in Chicago?
The strongest entry point in Chicago is through its dense concentration of asset managers, hedge funds, and trading firms anchored in the Loop and River North. Familiarity with financial modeling, portfolio analysis, or derivatives gives candidates a clear edge in this market. Networking through Chicago's CFA Society chapter and targeting boutique firms alongside major institutions broadens your reach considerably.
Which companies hire investments in Chicago?
Chicago investment roles are posted by JPMorganChase, Guggenheim Partners, and Northern Trust and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Chicago's employer mix runs from global investment banks and insurance giants to independent RIAs and commodity trading firms unique to the city's exchange-driven economy.
Are there remote investment jobs in Chicago?
Yes, though availability depends heavily on the role, since client-facing and trading-floor positions remain largely on-site while research, analyst, and back-office functions are more flexible. About 60% of investment openings tied to Chicago are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting broader industry norms. Hybrid arrangements are most common among portfolio research and due diligence roles at Loop-based firms.
How can I get a investment job in Chicago with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Chicago is landing an analyst or operations associate role at one of the city's mid-size RIAs or regional broker-dealers, which hire earlier-career candidates more readily than the large institutional names. Roles in client service, fund accounting, or trade support at firms in the West Loop frequently serve as stepping stones into investment functions. A CFA Level I candidacy and demonstrated Excel or Bloomberg proficiency help significantly.
Which industries hire the most investments in Chicago?
Most investment openings in Chicago sit in Investment & Asset Management, Banking & Financial Services, and Fintech, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Chicago's position as a global hub for derivatives trading, commodities, and insurance drives sustained demand across these sectors well beyond what most other U.S. cities generate.
