Tips for Your Investment Job Search
Quantify every investment outcome you've owned
Hiring managers in investment roles scan for numbers fast. Attach a return figure, deal size, or AUM figure to every bullet on your resume. Vague language like 'managed portfolios' loses to 'managed a $40M equity book with consistent outperformance.'
Earn your CFA or CAIA before applying
A passed CFA Level I signals commitment and quantitative rigor to most buy-side and sell-side teams. If you're early career, even passing Level I before interviewing separates you from candidates who list it as 'in progress' indefinitely.
Target openings by strategy, not just firm type
Filter by investment strategy, not just 'hedge fund' or 'bank.' A long-short equity role demands different modeling skills than a credit or macro seat. Matching your experience to the strategy makes your cover letter land harder and speeds recruiter callbacks.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists investment openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Build a public model or investment thesis
Attach a written investment thesis or a sample DCF to your application for analyst and associate roles. It shows you can do the work, not just describe it. A clean one-page memo on a publicly traded company is enough to stand out.
Prepare for technical case studies before screening calls
Most investment interview processes include a live or take-home stock pitch. Practice walking through valuation, catalysts, and downside risks in under ten minutes. Firms often send the prompt 24 to 48 hours ahead, so having a repeatable framework ready cuts your prep time significantly.
Investment Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most investments?
The companies hiring the most investments right now include Fidelity Investments, JPMorganChase, and Bank of America, with the largest share of openings in New York, California, and Texas, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Openings tend to concentrate at large asset managers, regional banks, and private equity firms with active deal pipelines.
How many investment jobs are remote?
About 23% of investment openings are fully remote or hybrid as of June 2026, with remote availability varying significantly by function. Roles focused on research, financial analysis, and client reporting are more likely to offer flexible arrangements, while deal execution and trading desk positions typically require in-office presence throughout the process.
How do you become an investment professional?
Start with a finance, economics, or accounting degree, then gain hands-on experience through internships in banking, asset management, or corporate finance. Passing CFA Level I strengthens your candidacy significantly. Build a modeling portfolio, practice writing investment theses, and target analyst or associate roles at firms whose strategy matches your experience and asset class interest.
Can you get hired in investment with little experience?
Yes, entry-level analyst roles are specifically designed for candidates with limited professional experience. Firms recruiting at this level prioritize strong academic performance in quantitative subjects, demonstrated interest through personal investing or research projects, and the ability to build clean financial models. A stock pitch or written memo submitted with your application can substitute for a thin resume.
What does the investment interview process look like?
Most investment interview processes run in multiple rounds, starting with a recruiter screen focused on your background and motivations. Technical rounds follow, covering valuation methods, accounting concepts, and market knowledge. Many firms assign a take-home or live stock pitch as a final step. Senior candidates often present a portfolio review or investment thesis directly to a committee or portfolio manager.
Where can I find and apply to investment jobs?
You can find and apply to investment jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from across the United States. Search roles by location, seniority, or specialization, then apply directly to each listing that fits your background. No redirects, no third-party portals, each application goes straight to the employer posting the role.
