Position Summary
We are looking for an IT Asset Manager to own the end-to-end lifecycle of the company's IT assets – both hardware and software. This role coordinates closely with the Purchasing team and IT Sourcing to plan, procure, track, and retire assets in a cost-effective and compliant way, while also managing the technicians who support hardware in the field, including our manufacturing environment. You will build and maintain the processes, tools, and reporting that give the organization visibility into what assets it owns, where they are, who is using them, and when they need to be refreshed, renewed, or retired.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the full lifecycle of physical and software IT assets: planning/forecasting, procurement, receiving, deployment, maintenance, and retirement/disposal.
- Partner with the Purchasing team and IT Sourcing to plan and execute hardware and software purchases, ensuring cost-effective vendor selection and contract terms.
- Maintain an accurate, centralized inventory of hardware and software assets, including ownership, location, warranty/support status, and lifecycle stage.
- Leverage asset tracking technologies such as RFID (and barcode/QR tagging) to monitor asset location, movement, and utilization in real time, particularly across the manufacturing floor and other distributed sites.
- Manage software asset management (SAM) activities: license tracking, renewals, compliance, and reconciliation against actual usage/entitlements.
- Coordinate and prioritize the work of IT hardware support technicians, including field/manufacturing support, ensuring assets are deployed, maintained, and retired according to plan.
- Define and enforce asset management policies and standards (tagging, onboarding/offboarding, refresh cycles, disposal/data-wiping procedures).
- Manage relationships with hardware/software vendors and MDM providers to support device enrollment, compliance, and lifecycle needs.
- Track and report on asset costs, utilization, and total cost of ownership to support budgeting and lifecycle-refresh decisions.
- Support audits (internal and external) related to IT assets, software licensing, and compliance.
- Identify opportunities to optimize spend and reduce risk across the hardware and software asset portfolio.
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in IT asset management, IT operations, procurement, or a related role.
- Experience managing both hardware and software assets, including software license management/compliance.
- Demonstrated experience coordinating with Purchasing and/or Sourcing teams on IT procurement.
- Experience using an IT asset management (ITAM) tool or system to track and report on assets.
- Strong organizational and cross-functional coordination skills; comfortable managing vendors and internal stakeholders simultaneously.
- Experience directly or indirectly overseeing technical support staff or field technicians.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Mobile Device Management (MDM) platforms (e.g., Microsoft Intune) and device lifecycle/compliance management.
- Experience with Enterprise Architecture (EA) tools (e.g., LeanIX, Ardoq, BiZZdesign, ServiceNow APM) to maintain an application/asset portfolio view.
- Familiarity with general IT asset management and discovery tools (e.g., ServiceNow ITAM, Flexera, Snow Software, Ivanti).
- Experience supporting manufacturing or industrial environments, including specialized hardware such as Zebra devices.
- Experience with label/print management platforms such as BarTender Cloud and on-premises BarTender, including printer deployment, driver management, and print server administration.
- Experience implementing or administering RFID-based asset tracking and monitoring systems (tags, readers/antennas, and associated software) for real-time asset visibility.
- Knowledge of industry best practices and frameworks for IT service and asset management (e.g., ITIL, ISO/IEC 19770)
Working Conditions
This role works cross-functionally with Purchasing, IT Sourcing, and manufacturing/operations teams, and may require periodic time on the manufacturing floor to assess hardware needs and support technicians in the field.
This job description may not be inclusive to the duties and responsibilities listed. Additional tasks may be assigned to the employee from time to time or the scope of the job may change as needed by business demands.

Mid Level IT Asset Management Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a mid level it asset management job?
Position your experience around ownership, not just execution. Highlight situations where you managed an asset lifecycle independently, resolved inventory discrepancies, or improved a tracking process rather than simply following one. Emphasize familiarity with ITAM platforms and any cross-functional collaboration with procurement, finance, or security teams. Applications that show measurable impact, such as reduced costs or improved compliance rates, stand out at this level.
Which companies hire mid level it asset managements?
Companies hiring mid level it asset managements right now include DoorDash, TruStage, and AST SpaceMobile, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Hiring at this level covers large enterprises managing complex hardware fleets, financial institutions with strict compliance requirements, and healthcare and technology organizations scaling their IT infrastructure.
Are there remote mid level it asset management jobs?
Yes, with meaningful availability. About 0% of mid level it asset management openings are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting employer confidence that experienced asset managers can oversee software inventories, license compliance, and vendor coordination without being on site every day. Fully remote roles tend to focus on software asset management over physical hardware.
How do I move up to a mid level it asset management role?
The move from entry level to mid level comes from accumulating ownership, not just time. Early-career professionals build toward mid level by taking on full lifecycle responsibility for asset categories, learning ITAM tools deeply, and driving process improvements rather than maintaining existing ones. Demonstrating measurable outcomes, such as cost avoidance, audit readiness, or improved data accuracy, signals that you are ready for the broader scope mid level roles require.
