Mid Level Security Engineering Manager Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a mid level security engineering manager job?
Position yourself around ownership and outcomes. Highlight security projects you led from scoping through delivery, decisions you made independently, and any mentoring you provided to less experienced engineers. Tailor your application to show you can bridge hands-on technical work with cross-team coordination. Certifications like CISSP, CISM, or cloud security credentials strengthen a mid level profile when paired with demonstrated project impact.
Which companies hire mid level security engineering managers?
Companies hiring mid level security engineering managers right now include Amazon, GEICO, and Amazon Web Services, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Both large enterprises building out dedicated security organizations and fast-growing technology companies expanding their engineering teams actively recruit at this level.
Are there remote mid level security engineering manager jobs?
Yes, remote and hybrid options are widely available at this experience level. About 27% of mid level security engineering manager openings are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting how broadly distributed security teams have become. Roles requiring hands-on lab work or government facility access tend to remain on-site, while program management and architecture-focused positions offer the most flexibility.
How do I move up to a mid level security engineering manager role?
The path from entry level to mid level centers on deepening a specialization, such as cloud security, incident response, or application security, while progressively taking ownership of full projects rather than individual tasks. Building a record of measurable outcomes, such as reduced vulnerability counts or faster detection times, signals readiness. Taking on informal mentoring and participating in cross-functional initiatives accelerates the transition.
