IT Security Analyst Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become an it security analyst in California?
Most California employers require a bachelor's degree in cybersecurity, computer science, or information systems alongside at least one industry certification such as CompTIA Security+, CISSP, or CEH. California has no state-issued license specific to IT security analysts, so the hiring bar is set by certifications and demonstrated technical skills. Building experience through IT helpdesk, network administration, or systems administration roles is the most common path into a first security analyst position in the state.
How much do IT security analysts make in California?
IT security analysts in California earn a median of about $138,570 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $66,070 for the lowest 10% to over $221,000 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire it security analysts in California?
Employers hiring it security analysts in California right now include Evolver, Akraya, and California State University, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. California's concentration of aerospace, defense, and technology headquarters means security analyst roles here frequently require clearance eligibility or experience with regulated industries.
Which California cities have the most it security analyst jobs?
San Francisco, Folsom, and Palo Alto have the most it security analyst openings in California. The Bay Area leads because of its dense concentration of enterprise technology companies and cloud infrastructure providers, while Los Angeles draws demand from entertainment, aerospace, and financial services sectors, and San Diego's large defense and biotech presence sustains steady hiring across both cleared and commercial security roles.
Are there remote it security analyst jobs in California?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 29% of it security analyst openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting how much of the work, including threat monitoring, log analysis, and policy development, can be done from anywhere. Roles tied to on-site infrastructure, classified systems, or physical security operations are less likely to be offered remotely.
How can I get hired as an it security analyst in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through an IT support or network operations role that exposes you to security tooling, then transitioning once you hold a recognized certification like CompTIA Security+. Large California employers including Kaiser Permanente, major UC system campuses, and Bay Area technology companies run rotational IT programs and junior analyst positions designed for candidates without dedicated security experience. Building a home lab, contributing to open-source security projects, or earning a cloud security associate credential gives California applicants a concrete edge over unqualified competition.
Where can I find and apply to it security analyst jobs in California?
You can find and apply to it security analyst jobs in California on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers actively hiring across the state. Search the available roles, find ones that match your background and location, and apply directly to the employers that fit.
