Iowa does not require a state-issued license for this role, so advancement depends on demonstrating leadership on cross-functional projects, earning certifications like CompTIA Network+ or ITIL, and building experience managing team workflows and vendor relationships.
How much do IT team leads make in Iowa?

Which companies hire it team leads in Iowa?
Companies currently hiring it team leads in Iowa include Bitco Insurance Companies, Casey's, and Collabera, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Iowa's financial services and insurance sector, anchored in Des Moines, is among the most consistent sources of IT leadership openings in the state.
Which Iowa cities have the most it team lead jobs?
Des Moines, Davenport, and Cedar Rapids have the most it team lead openings in Iowa. Des Moines dominates the distribution because it is home to major insurance carriers, financial institutions, and regional headquarters that maintain large IT departments, while Cedar Rapids and Iowa City generate demand through aerospace manufacturing, healthcare systems, and university technology operations.

The most realistic entry path is moving into a team lead role from a senior technician or senior analyst position rather than applying directly without a leadership background. Large Iowa employers in insurance and healthcare, including those headquartered in Des Moines, regularly promote from within, so joining as a systems administrator, IT analyst, or helpdesk specialist and taking on project ownership is a well-worn route. Earning an ITIL Foundation certification or a vendor credential like Microsoft Azure Administrator signals readiness for a leadership track to Iowa hiring managers.
