INTRODUCTION
Secure Every Identity, from AI to Human
Identity is the key to unlocking the potential of AI. Okta secures AI by building the trusted, neutral infrastructure that enables organizations to safely embrace this new era. This work requires a relentless drive to solve complex challenges with real-world stakes. We are looking for builders and owners who operate with speed and urgency and execute with excellence.
This is an opportunity to do career-defining work. We're all in on this mission. If you are too, let's talk.
Location: We’re seeking a dynamic and motivated individual to join our team in San Francisco.
ABOUT THE INTERNSHIP
The Corporate Communications team at Okta is a global, high-impact engine responsible for protecting and elevating the company’s reputation. Our team is composed of experts across Internal Communications, Crisis and Reputation, Executive Communications, Public Relations, Digital Communications, and our Newsroom. We are looking for an AI Strategy & Operations Intern to help us push the boundaries of what’s possible across all these functions. In this role, you will partner with our team to further integrate AI into our sophisticated communications ecosystem. This isn't just about using new tools; it’s about architecting the next generation of our operational strategy. We’re looking for a data-fluent marketing or communications student who can help us scale our AI "playbook," build shared resources for our global team, and deepen our data-driven insights.
What You’ll Get to Do
- Architect the AI Hub: Build and curate a centralized "AI Playbook" and resource library (including custom Gemini Gems and prompt templates) tailored to the specific needs of our Internal, Executive, and PR teams.
- Scale Global Workflows: Partner with sub-functions to identify and automate high-frequency tasks—such as synthesizing global news cycles for the Newsroom or drafting multi-channel social assets for Digital Comms.
- Build the Executive Engagement Engine: Design and manage a centralized tracker for executive speaking engagements; use AI to categorize and analyze "Accepted," "Denied," and "Received" requests to identify strategic gaps and opportunities.
- Advance Narrative Measurement: Leverage LLMs to transform unstructured media data into structured insights, for proactive messaging guidance.
- Internal AI Enablement: Act as a "scout" for the team by pilot-testing new AI features and leading "how-to" sessions to ensure the global team remains at the cutting edge of AI proficiency.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
- Academic Pursuit: Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Business, or Data Analytics and graduating December 2026 or Spring 2027. (We love candidates who sit at the intersection of "Storytelling" and "Data".)
- The "AI Architect" Mindset: You don't just use AI to write emails; you understand how to build sophisticated system prompts and custom agents (like Gemini Gems) that solve specific business problems.
- Data-Driven Marketer: You are comfortable with "messy" data. You can take a list of news headlines or speaking invites and use tools to turn them into structured insights and visual trends.
- Operationally Minded: You enjoy building systems that make work easier for others. You are the person who naturally wants to organize a chaotic spreadsheet or automate a repetitive task.
- Strategic Communicator: You understand that "tone" and "voice" matter. You can distinguish between the professional nuance needed for an Executive and the fast-paced energy required for Social Media.
- Self-Starter & Scout: You are naturally curious and stay 15 minutes ahead of the news cycle when it comes to new AI features, tools, and best practices.
A PLUS
- Automation Enthusiast: Experience with low-code automation tools (e.g., Airtable, Zapier, or Google Apps Script) to move data between platforms.
- Visual Storyteller: Proficiency in creating simple but high-impact data visualizations (e.g., in Google Data Studio, Tableau, or even advanced Excel/Sheets).
- Productivity Hacker: You’ve built your own "personal AI workflow" or side project that demonstrates how you use technology to multiply your own output.
OKTA’S INTERN PROGRAM
As an intern, you’ll do real work that matters. While you’re on board, you’ll work on meaningful projects and have an opportunity to see what working at Okta is all about. You’ll also have the support of your mentor and manager to help you develop new skills.
Our interns have the opportunity to build a strong community - with their fellow interns, within their teams, and with the broader company. We want you to grow professionally and you’ll do that through participating in events like our Executive Speaker Series and Brown Bags. And of course, we want you to have fun too. We offer 12 week internships in the U.S. in the Summer and 16 week co-ops in Canada. You may choose from the following options: May 26 – August 14 or June 15 – September 4.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding J-1 Visa Sponsorship in AI Strategy Lead
Frame your AI credentials for DS-2019 eligibility
Designated sponsors evaluate your qualifications against the J-1 Specialist or Trainee category criteria before issuing a DS-2019. Document your AI strategy experience, advanced degree field, and any published work or advisory roles in a single credentials brief.
Target host employers with existing sponsor relationships
Some U.S. companies have established agreements with designated J-1 sponsors like Cultural Vistas or IIE, which shortens the DS-2019 timeline. Prioritize outreach to organizations that have hosted J-1 Specialists before, since they already understand the training plan requirements.
Use Migrate Mate to find J-1-aligned AI roles
Searching for AI Strategy Lead openings that align with J-1 sponsorship pathways is faster when your filter set matches program category, not just job title. Migrate Mate lets you surface U.S. employers receptive to J-1 arrangements without guessing from generic job boards.
Build a training plan around AI deliverables
The J-1 Trainee and Specialist categories require a structured Training or Internship Placement Plan. Map your AI strategy activities, such as model governance frameworks or go-to-market pilots, to specific learning objectives and timelines so the designated sponsor can approve the plan without revisions.
Clarify the two-year home residency rule early
J-1 Specialist and Trainee participants whose funding comes from a government or international organization may be subject to a two-year home residency requirement before switching to H-1B or green card status. Confirm whether this applies to your situation before accepting a host employer's offer.
Negotiate DS-2019 timing into your offer timeline
The designated sponsor, not your host employer, controls DS-2019 issuance, and processing can add several weeks after an offer is signed. Build that window into your start-date negotiation so the program category approval and training plan review don't conflict with your agreed onboarding date.

Find AI Strategy Lead JobsAI Strategy Lead J-1 Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Which J-1 program category fits an AI Strategy Lead role?
The Specialist category fits most mid-to-senior AI Strategy Lead placements, covering professionals with expertise not widely available in the U.S. market. If you are early-career or completing a structured learning objective, the Trainee category may apply instead. The Short-Term Scholar category can work for project-based advisory engagements under six months. Your designated sponsor confirms which category matches your qualifications and the host employer's program structure.
Who actually sponsors a J-1 visa for an AI Strategy Lead position?
Your J-1 visa sponsor is a U.S. Department of State-designated organization, such as Cultural Vistas, IIE, or CIEE, not your hiring employer. The hiring company acts as the host organization. The designated sponsor issues your DS-2019 form, monitors program compliance, and signs your training plan. The host employer funds the role but cannot independently sponsor J-1 status the way an employer sponsors an H-1B petition.
Does the two-year home residency requirement affect AI Strategy Lead J-1 holders?
It can. J-1 participants whose exchange program is funded by a government source or designated as skills-shortage-related may be subject to the two-year home residency requirement under INA Section 212(e). For AI Strategy Lead roles, the trigger most often arises when the host employer is a government-affiliated entity or the program receives government funding. USCIS and the State Department both assess this, and it directly affects any future H-1B or immigrant visa applications.
How do I find U.S. host employers open to J-1 Specialist or Trainee arrangements?
Most U.S. employers are unfamiliar with J-1 Specialist or Trainee mechanics, so cold outreach rarely works without a clear explanation of how the program functions. Migrate Mate lets you identify AI Strategy Lead roles at employers already receptive to J-1 arrangements, which reduces the time spent educating hiring managers about the DS-2019 process before you even reach the interview stage.
What does the training plan require for an AI Strategy Lead placement?
Your designated sponsor requires a detailed Training or Internship Placement Plan outlining specific objectives, the supervisory structure, and a week-by-week or phase-based schedule of activities. For an AI Strategy Lead, this typically includes deliverables like AI roadmap development, cross-functional stakeholder workshops, or model governance design. Vague descriptions of 'AI consulting' are not sufficient. The plan must demonstrate that the experience is structured learning, not standard employment performing an ongoing operational function.
