Role Overview
We are looking for a motivated Manufacturing Engineering Intern with a foundational background in Electrical Engineering to join our Operations team. This role focuses on the critical bridge between design and physical hardware, specifically overseeing the PCB life cycle from initial layout through bare board fabrication.
This is an exceptional opportunity for a student or recent graduate looking to enter the AI hardware space. You will work at the intersection of design, quality, and manufacturing, ensuring that our high-performance boards are built for maximum reliability, scalability, and signal integrity.
Key Responsibilities
- Design-to-Release Orchestration: Participate in the full PCB design release process, including reviewing Gerber files, validating stack-ups, and resolving DFM (Design for Manufacturing) queries from external fabrication vendors.
- Supplier Yield Monitoring: Track and analyze manufacturing yields at PCB suppliers; provide regular performance readouts to the Operations team and identify specific process areas for improvement.
- Quality & Compliance: Support bare PCB qualification and acceptance testing in strict accordance with IPC standards (IPC-A-600/610).
- Cross-Functional Analysis: Perform detailed data analysis on test coupon measurements, collaborating directly with Signal Integrity (SI) leads to ensure physical boards meet high-speed performance requirements.
- Technology Research: Conduct market research on emerging PCB technologies, advanced substrate materials, and new supplier capabilities to build a strategic internal knowledge base.
Required Qualifications
- Education: Currently pursuing or recently completed a B.S. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering
- PCB Fundamentals: Understanding of PCB stack-up architecture, trace routing constraints
- Standards Knowledge: Familiarity with (or a strong desire to learn) IPC standards for board acceptability and fabrication tolerances.
- Software & Data Skills: Exposure to ECAD tools such as Altium Designer or Cadence; basic proficiency in SQL or data visualization tools for analyzing yield and performance
- Analytical Mindset: Excellent problem-solving skills with a focus on hardware reliability, failure analysis, and data-driven decision-making.

Verify your training plan matches your field
Your DS-2019 requires a detailed training plan tied directly to your field of study or prior work in manufacturing. Gaps between your stated background and the proposed shop-floor activities are a common reason designated sponsors delay or decline issuance.
Distinguish Intern from Trainee eligibility early
J-1 Intern status requires current enrollment in a degree program, while Trainee status is for professionals with at least one year of post-secondary education plus related work experience. Applying under the wrong category forces a restart with your designated sponsor.
Search Migrate Mate for J-1-compatible host employers
Use Migrate Mate to filter Manufacturing Laborer roles by employers familiar with exchange visitor programs. Targeting hosts with prior J-1 experience shortens negotiation time and reduces the chance the employer declines mid-process over unfamiliarity with the DS-2019 requirements.
Confirm the host employer uses E-Verify
Most designated sponsors require host employers to be enrolled in E-Verify before countersigning your training plan. Confirm this before accepting any offer, because retrofitting E-Verify compliance after an offer is extended can delay your program start date by weeks.
Document hands-on production skills in your application
Designated sponsors evaluate whether your proposed manufacturing activities provide genuine skills transfer. Written evidence of prior exposure to equipment operation, assembly lines, or quality-control processes strengthens your training plan and reduces sponsor requests for revision.
Ask your host about the two-year home residency rule
Some J-1 participants from countries on the DOL skills list or funded by their home government are subject to a two-year home residency requirement after program completion. Clarify this with your designated sponsor before signing your training plan, as it affects future U.S. visa eligibility.

Find Manufacturing Laborer JobsManufacturing Laborer J-1 Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Which J-1 program category applies to Manufacturing Laborer roles?
Most Manufacturing Laborer exchange visitors enter under the J-1 Trainee category if they have completed a post-secondary degree and at least one year of relevant work experience. Current students enrolled in a vocational or technical program may qualify under the Intern category instead. The designated sponsor confirms the correct category based on your background and the host employer's training plan before issuing the DS-2019.
Who actually sponsors the J-1 visa for a manufacturing job?
The J-1 visa sponsor is not the manufacturing employer but a U.S. Department of State-designated sponsor organization, such as Cultural Vistas or AIPT, that issues your DS-2019 form and monitors your program compliance. The manufacturer is your host employer. Both parties must agree to a formal training plan, but only the designated sponsor carries legal responsibility for your exchange visitor status.
How do I find manufacturing employers open to hosting J-1 exchange visitors?
Search Migrate Mate to identify Manufacturing Laborer roles at U.S. employers with demonstrated experience hosting international workers. Many manufacturers are unfamiliar with the J-1 host-employer process, so targeting companies that have worked with exchange visitors before significantly improves your chances of reaching an offer and completing the DS-2019 countersignature without delays.
What does a J-1 training plan need to include for a manufacturing role?
Your training plan, typically documented on a DS-7002 form, must describe the specific skills you will develop, the equipment or processes involved, supervision arrangements, and how the experience relates to your prior education or work. Designated sponsors reject vague plans. For manufacturing roles, listing specific production techniques, safety certifications, or quality-control methods makes the plan credible and approvable.
Does the two-year home residency requirement affect manufacturing J-1 participants?
It can. J-1 exchange visitors from countries on the DOL exchange visitor skills list, or those whose program is funded by a government source, are subject to a two-year home residency requirement before they can apply for certain U.S. visas or adjust status. Check your DS-2019 and confirm with your designated sponsor whether this requirement applies before you accept a host employer's offer.
