Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding J-1 Visa Sponsorship as a SAP FICO Consultant
Document your SAP certification pathway clearly
J-1 Trainee applications require a structured training plan tied to your field of study or recent work. Compile your SAP FICO certification records, university transcripts, and a clear narrative showing how U.S. host training advances skills you cannot gain at home.
Target host employers with active J-1 programs
Not every company that hires SAP FICO Consultants has experience hosting J-1 Trainees. Search Migrate Mate to identify U.S. employers whose roles and organizational profiles align with structured ERP finance training placements.
Distinguish Trainee from Specialist category eligibility
If you graduated within the last 12 months, you qualify as a J-1 Trainee. If you have five or more years of professional SAP FICO experience abroad, the Specialist category may apply. Choosing the wrong category at the outset delays your DS-2019 issuance.
Align your training plan with FICO module specifics
Designated sponsors require a detailed training plan before issuing a DS-2019. Break your plan into specific FICO submodules, such as asset accounting, cost center controlling, or profit center reporting, with weekly objectives your host employer can sign off on.
Clarify the 2-year home residency requirement early
Some J-1 Trainee and Specialist placements trigger the two-year home-country physical presence requirement, particularly if funded by your government or if your home country appears on the Exchange Visitor Skills List. Confirm your status before accepting a host offer.
Confirm host employer willingness to coordinate with a sponsor
During offer negotiations, verify that your host employer will complete the required host company agreement forms with your designated sponsor organization. Many U.S. firms unfamiliar with J-1 procedures stall at this step, which can void a signed offer.

Find SAP FICO Consultant JobsSAP FICO Consultant J-1 Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Which J-1 program category fits an SAP FICO Consultant role?
Most SAP FICO Consultants enter on the J-1 Trainee or Specialist category. Trainee applies if you are a recent graduate or have fewer than one year of post-degree work experience. Specialist applies if you have substantial expertise in SAP FICO that is not widely available in your home country. Neither category is employer-sponsored; a State Department-designated organization such as Cultural Vistas or AIPT issues your DS-2019 and administers the program.
Who actually sponsors a J-1 visa for an SAP FICO Consultant?
The visa sponsor is a U.S. Department of State-designated organization, not the hiring company. That organization issues your DS-2019 form, reviews your training plan, and monitors compliance throughout your stay. The U.S. company where you work is the host employer. Conflating the two is a common mistake that causes applicants to approach employers directly for sponsorship documents the employer is not authorized to provide.
How do I find U.S. host employers open to J-1 Trainees in SAP FICO?
Use Migrate Mate to search for SAP FICO Consultant roles at U.S. companies that have demonstrated openness to international exchange visitors. Once you identify a target employer, ask directly whether they have an existing relationship with a designated J-1 sponsor organization or are willing to execute a host company agreement. Approaching employers with that specific question filters out companies unprepared for the process.
Does the J-1 Trainee category require a formal training plan for SAP FICO roles?
Yes. Your designated sponsor requires a completed Training or Internship Placement Plan, known as Form DS-7002, before issuing a DS-2019. For SAP FICO placements, this means specifying the FICO modules covered, the skills to be transferred, the supervision structure, and the phase-by-phase schedule. Vague plans citing only general finance work are frequently rejected by sponsors and slow down your placement significantly.
Can an SAP FICO Consultant on J-1 transition to another visa status afterward?
A transition to H-1B or another employer-sponsored status is possible after your J-1 program ends, but only if you are not subject to the two-year home residency requirement under INA Section 212(e). If that requirement applies, you must return to your home country for two years or obtain a waiver before changing to H-1B or applying for a green card. Confirm whether your placement triggers this requirement before you finalize your host agreement.
