What Product Management Is Like At Gusto
Our Product team is lean, which means you’ll have a high degree of impact and ownership. We believe in smaller, empowered teams that move quickly with less overhead. You’ll move fast by pairing sharp product judgment with fluency in AI tools — automating what slows teams down and amplifying what makes them creative and high-performing.
We’re boundaryless builders. Lines between roles are intentionally blurred, and our PMs do whatever it takes to deliver outcomes. You’ll prototype, automate, design, and ship — using AI as your co-builder to turn problems into durable solutions that deliver customer value with urgency and care.
We’re here to serve small and medium businesses. Gusto has a strong mission-driven culture, and we care deeply about lifting up these business owners — building technology for an AI-first world that gives them the superpowers to run and grow their businesses with confidence.
We’re comfortable with change. Our environment moves fast, and PMs here thrive in ambiguity — blending curiosity, experimentation, and AI-native craft to shape how products (and work itself) are built at Gusto.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding J-1 Visa Sponsorship as a Senior Corporate Accountant
Align your credentials with specialty occupation standards
Gather transcripts and professional certifications that demonstrate a direct field match to accounting. Hosts and designated sponsors scrutinize whether your academic background and prior work experience align with the specific corporate accounting functions in the training plan.
Build a J-1 training plan around your accounting specialty
Draft a structured 52-week training plan that sequences your exposure across financial reporting, consolidations, and internal controls. Designated sponsors like Cultural Vistas require this document before issuing a DS-2019, and vague plans draw requests for additional documentation.
Target host employers with established finance departments
Search for U.S. companies that have hosted J-1 Trainees before by filtering on Migrate Mate for accounting roles at employers with J-1 program history. Finance departments at mid-size and large corporations are most familiar with the host-employer compliance obligations.
Verify prevailing wage compliance before accepting any offer
Cross-check the offered compensation against the OFLC Wage Search for your specific accounting SOC code and metro area. Your designated sponsor confirms wage adequacy as part of DS-2019 issuance, and an offer below prevailing wage will delay or block your visa approval.
Clarify the two-year home residency requirement early
Corporate accounting Trainees who receive government funding or come from countries on the Exchange Visitor Skills List may face the two-year home residency requirement. Confirm your status before signing an offer letter, since this restriction affects H-1B and green card eligibility later.
Confirm your host employer's willingness to sign compliance forms
Your host employer must co-sign the training plan and agree to SEVIS reporting obligations managed by the designated sponsor. Raise this in the offer stage, not after acceptance, because some finance teams are unfamiliar with the host-employer distinction from direct visa sponsorship.

Find Senior Corporate Accountant JobsSenior Corporate Accountant J-1 Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Which J-1 program category applies to Senior Corporate Accountant roles?
It depends on your career stage. If you're currently enrolled in a degree program, the Intern category covers accounting placements related to your field of study. If you've already graduated and have at least one year of accounting experience, the Trainee category applies. Senior-level roles with five or more years of post-degree experience typically route through the Trainee category, which allows placements of up to 18 months.
Who actually sponsors the J-1 visa for an accounting role?
A U.S. Department of State-designated sponsor organization, such as Cultural Vistas or AIPT, issues your DS-2019 and serves as the official visa sponsor. The U.S. company where you work is your host employer, not your visa sponsor. The host signs the training plan and meets program compliance requirements, but the designated sponsor holds legal responsibility for your J-1 status throughout the placement.
How do I find U.S. employers open to hosting J-1 corporate accountants?
Migrate Mate lets you filter for accounting and finance roles at employers with demonstrated J-1 program experience, which saves significant time compared to cold-applying and then asking HR about host eligibility. Many finance departments at established companies have worked with designated sponsors before, but they don't always advertise that openness in job postings.
Can the two-year home residency requirement affect my accounting career path in the U.S.?
Yes, and it's a detail many applicants overlook until after accepting an offer. If the two-year home residency requirement applies to you, you cannot change to H-1B or pursue a green card without first returning home for two years or obtaining a waiver. Waivers are available through DOL or a state agency, but they involve separate applications and are not guaranteed. Confirm your requirement status before signing any employment agreement.
What does a valid J-1 training plan for a Senior Corporate Accountant include?
Your designated sponsor requires a structured Training/Internship Placement Plan, often called a DS-7002, that breaks your placement into phases with specific skills, supervision methods, and evaluation milestones. For accounting roles, this typically covers areas like financial statement preparation, variance analysis, consolidations, and internal audit exposure. Vague plans that list broad accounting tasks without phase-based progression are frequently returned for revision by the sponsor before DS-2019 issuance.
