Position Overview
We are hiring a Senior Technical Instructor to lead the design, delivery, and continuous improvement of technical training on Semperis products for internal teams, partners, and customers. You will play a central role in helping highly technical audiences build real-world skills in identity security, threat detection, and forest recovery across solutions such as DSP, ADFR, Lightning, Migrator, and related offerings. This is a senior individual contributor role within the Global Technical Enablement team. You will develop and deliver advanced technical courses, build and maintain multi-modal curriculum (ILT/vILT, self-paced eLearning, blended programs), and ensure all content stays aligned with current product capabilities and field realities. You’ll partner closely with Product, Engineering, Technical Delivery, Support, Professional Services, and Channel teams to translate product roadmaps, implementation patterns, and customer scenarios into hands-on, lab-driven learning experiences that support our certification program and new-hire onboarding at scale.
Key Responsibilities
Instructional Delivery & Content Creation
- Design, develop, and deliver advanced technical training on Semperis products (e.g., DSP, ADFR, Lightning, Migrator) for customers, partners, and internal technical audiences.
- Create and maintain multi-format curriculum (instructor-led, virtual ILT, self-paced eLearning, blended programs) aligned to product use cases, lab scenarios, and certification paths.
- Build, maintain, and troubleshoot hands-on labs and demos that mirror real-world enterprise AD and hybrid identity environments, working closely with the lab architect and SMEs.
- Develop clear, technically accurate training assets including slide decks, lab guides, facilitator guides, and reference materials that support both live and self-paced delivery.
- Deliver engaging live sessions, workshops, and bootcamps, facilitating deep-dive discussions, troubleshooting scenarios, and Q&A with senior engineers and architects.
Learning Strategy, Onboarding & Certification Support
- Partner with the Head of Technical Enablement and Instructional Design to align courses with role-based learning paths, 30/60/90-day onboarding plans, and product launch priorities.
- Contribute to the technical certification program by validating blueprints, piloting content, creating instructor materials, and ensuring lab and exam experiences are instruction-ready.
- Develop and refine specialized onboarding and training strategies for different technical roles (Pre-Sales, Technical Delivery, Support, CSM, PS, partner engineers).
- Provide input on blended learning platforms and methodologies; recommend improvements to formats, sequencing, and delivery models based on learner feedback and outcomes.
Partner & Customer Enablement
- Support partner technical readiness by delivering partner-focused training sessions, workshops, and certification prep aligned with the partner technical certification roadmap.
- Tailor content, examples, and labs for partner and customer audiences to reflect field scenarios, common deployment patterns, and identity resilience best practices.
- Collaborate with Channel and Partner teams to schedule, promote, and execute training programs that scale across regions and partner tiers.
Stakeholder Collaboration & SME Engagement
- Collaborate closely with Product Management, Engineering, Technical Delivery, Support, and Professional Services to ensure training content is accurate, current, and aligned with how Semperis solutions are implemented in production.
- Engage SMEs through structured content reviews and feedback cycles, efficiently extracting expertise while maintaining consistency and instructional quality.
- Mentor other instructors and contributors on best practices in technical training delivery, lab facilitation, and use of enablement platforms.
Measurement & Continuous Improvement
- Track and report on training effectiveness (attendance, satisfaction, assessments, lab completion, certification outcomes); use data to refine content and delivery approaches.
- Continuously update course materials in line with product releases, support trends, field feedback, and evolving identity threat landscape.
- Maintain brand and quality standards across all instructor-led and self-paced materials, ensuring a polished, professional, and consistent learner experience.
Qualifications
Required
- 8+ years of experience in enterprise IT with a focus on Active Directory, identity, and security (Windows Server, AD, Entra ID / Azure AD, hybrid identity).
- 6+ years of experience designing and delivering technical training (ILT/vILT, workshops, bootcamps) for highly technical audiences (IT, security, partners).
- Excellent presentation, facilitation, and communication skills; comfortable leading deep-dive technical sessions and Q&A with senior engineers and architects.
- Proven ability to translate complex, technical subject matter into engaging, learner-friendly content for technical audiences.
- Demonstrated experience collaborating with and managing SMEs across functions (product, engineering, sales) to efficiently extract knowledge and maintain accuracy.
- Comfortable working autonomously in a fast-paced, high-growth, globally distributed environment.
Preferred
- Experience in the cybersecurity industry or adjacent technology categories (identity security, cloud security, infrastructure protection, or similar).
- Familiarity with Active Directory, identity threat detection, or hybrid IT concepts is a significant plus.
- Experience preparing students for official certification programs.
- Proficiency with LMS platforms and common authoring / content tools (e.g., Articulate, Captivate, Camtasia, or similar).
- Relevant Microsoft / identity / security certifications and/or training credentials.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding J-1 Visa Sponsorship as a Senior Technical Writer
Align your portfolio with specialty occupation criteria
J-1 Trainee and Specialist categories require demonstrated professional-level expertise. Compile a portfolio showing API documentation, structured authoring in DITA or similar frameworks, and software development lifecycle work to substantiate your technical depth to sponsors.
Identify host employers with structured training programs
J-1 hosts must commit to a formal training plan, not just on-the-job duties. Target technology companies and SaaS firms with documented onboarding or rotational programs, since these organizations already have the internal structure sponsors require for DS-2019 approval.
Search for J-1-friendly roles using Migrate Mate
Filter by employers with J-1 hosting history on Migrate Mate before investing time in applications. Reaching out to companies that have never hosted exchange visitors requires them to build a sponsor relationship from scratch, which significantly slows the process.
Clarify the two-year home residency requirement early
Some J-1 Specialist and Trainee placements in government-funded or skills-shortage fields trigger a two-year home residency requirement under INA 212(e). Ask your designated sponsor whether your specific training plan and funding source implicate this requirement before accepting a host offer.
Prepare your training plan documentation before the offer stage
Sponsors require a detailed Training or Internship Placement Plan outlining learning objectives, supervision structure, and evaluation milestones. Draft this document in collaboration with your prospective host before formally engaging a sponsor, as incomplete plans are the most common cause of DS-2019 delays.
Verify your host employer's E-Verify enrollment status
Designated sponsors increasingly require host employers to participate in E-Verify as a compliance condition for issuing a DS-2019. Confirming enrollment before your host submits paperwork to the sponsor prevents late-stage rejections that can collapse an otherwise approved placement.

Find Senior Technical Writer JobsSenior Technical Writer J-1 Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Which J-1 program category fits a Senior Technical Writer role?
Most Senior Technical Writer placements fall under the J-1 Trainee or Specialist category. Trainee applies if you've graduated within the past 12 months or are combining education with practical experience. Specialist applies if you have specialized expertise in technical communication developed over several years of professional practice. Your designated sponsor determines which category fits based on your background and the host's training plan.
Who actually sponsors my J-1 visa as a technical writer, the employer or a separate organization?
The hiring company is your host employer, not your visa sponsor. Your J-1 visa sponsor is a U.S. Department of State-designated organization, such as CIEE, Cultural Vistas, or AIPT, that issues your DS-2019 form, monitors your compliance, and signs your training plan. The host employer must be approved by and work through that designated sponsor to place you legally.
How do I find host employers that have worked with J-1 sponsors before?
Use Migrate Mate to identify U.S. employers with a demonstrated history of hosting international professionals in technical writing and related roles. Employers already familiar with the J-1 host process have existing relationships with designated sponsors and internal contacts who can execute the training plan approval quickly, reducing your placement timeline significantly.
Does a J-1 Trainee or Specialist category for technical writing trigger the two-year home residency rule?
It depends on your nationality, your country of residence at the time of visa issuance, and whether your training is funded by your home government or a U.S. government agency. Technical writing placements at private technology companies with no government funding typically do not trigger the requirement under INA 212(e), but your designated sponsor must confirm this based on your specific DS-2019 circumstances.
Can I switch host employers mid-program if a better technical writing role comes up?
Changing host employers during an active J-1 program requires your designated sponsor's approval and a new or amended training plan. The new host must meet the same eligibility criteria as your original placement, and your sponsor must issue an updated DS-2019 reflecting the change. You cannot simply start at a new company without completing this process, as working outside your approved training plan violates J-1 status terms.
