Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding J-1 Visa Sponsorship as a Wholesale Account Manager
Build a Training Plan Before Interviewing
J-1 Trainee sponsorship requires a formal Training/Internship Placement Plan outlining your learning objectives by phase. Draft a sample plan showing how your account management tasks build on prior education or work experience before you approach host employers.
Target Distributors With International Procurement Teams
Wholesale distributors that source products internationally are already comfortable with cross-border compliance and more likely to host J-1 trainees. Focus your outreach on companies in industrial supply, food distribution, and consumer goods with documented import or export operations.
Use Migrate Mate to Filter J-1 Compatible Employers
Search Migrate Mate to identify U.S. wholesale employers whose hiring history and role structure align with J-1 Trainee or Intern program requirements, so you can prioritize outreach to companies already open to hosting exchange visitors.
Confirm the Two-Year Home Residency Rule Early
Trainee and Intern category participants from some countries or funded by their home government face a two-year home residency requirement before changing to most work visas. Check your DS-2019 and J-1 program documentation so this condition doesn't surprise you at the offer stage.
Align Your Offer Letter With OFLC Wage Standards
Your designated sponsor must certify that your compensation meets prevailing wage levels for the host employer's location and industry. Use the OFLC Wage Search to verify that the salary in your offer letter meets or exceeds the prevailing wage for account management roles in that metro area.
Request a DS-2019 Timeline From Your Sponsor Before Signing
Designated sponsors such as CIEE, Cultural Vistas, and AIPT each have their own document preparation timelines. Confirm how many business days your sponsor needs after the host employer submits the training plan, so your program start date in the offer letter is achievable.

Find Wholesale Account Manager JobsWholesale Account Manager J-1 Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Which J-1 program category fits a Wholesale Account Manager role?
The Trainee category applies if you have a degree and at least one year of work experience outside the U.S. The Intern category applies if you are currently enrolled in a degree program or graduated within the past 12 months. Both require a host employer to submit a structured training plan to a State Department-designated sponsor, such as Cultural Vistas or CIEE, which issues your DS-2019.
Does the hiring company sponsor my J-1 visa directly?
No. The hiring company acts as your host employer, not your visa sponsor. Your J-1 visa is sponsored by a U.S. Department of State-designated organization that reviews your training plan, issues the DS-2019 form, and monitors your program compliance. The host employer is responsible for providing the structured training environment, but the designated sponsor holds legal responsibility for the exchange program.
How do I find wholesale employers open to hosting J-1 trainees?
Most wholesale distributors have never hosted a J-1 trainee and won't advertise that they're open to it. Migrate Mate lets you search U.S. employers by role and sponsorship history, helping you identify wholesale companies whose hiring patterns suggest openness to international candidates. Direct outreach with a pre-drafted training plan proposal significantly improves response rates compared to applying through standard job postings.
What does the training plan need to cover for an account manager role?
The Training/Internship Placement Plan must break your program into phases, each with specific skills, tasks, and supervision arrangements. For a wholesale account manager role, typical phases cover CRM systems and pipeline management, client negotiation and order processing, and territory analysis. The designated sponsor reviews the plan to confirm it provides genuine learning objectives beyond routine work duties.
Can I stay in the U.S. and change visa status after my J-1 program ends?
It depends on whether your J-1 carries the two-year home residency requirement. If it does, you must return home for two years before applying for H-1B, L-1, or permanent residence unless you obtain a waiver. Trainees funded by their home government or from certain countries are most commonly affected. Review your DS-2019 and consult a licensed immigration attorney if you plan to pursue long-term U.S. employment after your program.
