Laboratory Technician Jobs in Hawaii: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a laboratory technician in Hawaii?
To work as a laboratory technician in Hawaii, you must obtain a Clinical Laboratory license through the Hawaii Department of Health, which oversees licensure for laboratory personnel in the state. Most positions require at minimum an associate degree in medical laboratory technology or a related science field. Passing a recognized certification exam, such as the ASCP MLT exam, strengthens your application and is often required before the state license is granted.
How much do laboratory technicians make in Hawaii?
Laboratory technicians in Hawaii earn a median of about $48,770 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $36,090 for the lowest 10% to over $63,520 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire laboratory technicians in Hawaii?
Hawaii laboratory technician roles are posted by The Queen's Medical Center, Clinical Laboratories of Hawaii, LLP, and Kaiser Permanente and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Healthcare networks and state government agencies account for the largest share of consistent laboratory technician openings across the islands.
Which Hawaii cities have the most laboratory technician jobs?
Kailua-Kona, Honolulu, and Waimea are the cities with the most laboratory technician openings in Hawaii. Honolulu drives the largest volume due to its concentration of major hospital systems and state public health facilities, while Hilo and Kailua-Kona reflect growing healthcare infrastructure on Hawaii Island that supports clinical laboratory staffing on the neighbor islands.
Are there remote laboratory technician jobs in Hawaii?
Yes, but they're rare. About 0% of laboratory technician openings tied to Hawaii are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting the hands-on, specimen-based nature of most laboratory work. The portions of the role most suited to remote work include data review, laboratory information system analysis, and certain quality assurance or compliance functions.
How can I get hired as a laboratory technician in Hawaii with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is completing an accredited medical laboratory technician program and applying for phlebotomist or laboratory assistant roles at Hawaii Pacific Health or The Queen's Health Systems, both of which hire candidates without full technician experience into support positions. From those roles, internal promotion into laboratory technician positions is common. Obtaining your ASCP MLT certification before applying, even without work history, gives you a measurable edge over other candidates at Hawaii employer screening stages.
Where can I find and apply to laboratory technician jobs in Hawaii?
You can find and apply to laboratory technician jobs in Hawaii on Migrate Mate, which lists current Hawaii openings. Find the roles that fit your experience and credentials below and apply directly to the ones that match.
