Licensed Prosthetist Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a licensed prosthetist in California?
You must obtain a license from the California Board of Prosthetics Orthotics and Pedorthics, which requires completing a graduate-level prosthetics program accredited by NCOPE, finishing a supervised residency, and passing the American Board for Certification in Orthotics, Prosthetics and Pedorthics or Board of Certification examinations. California does not offer reciprocity, so candidates from other states must apply directly to the California Board and meet all state requirements before practicing.
How much do licensed prosthetists make in California?
Licensed prosthetists in California earn a median of about $91,820 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $59,570 for the lowest 10% to over $125,590 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire licensed prosthetists in California?
Employers hiring licensed prosthetists in California right now include LifeStance Health, Prime Healthcare Services, and A-MAX Insurance, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. California's large veterans' population and dense network of rehabilitation hospitals and specialty clinics means hiring activity is steady across both private practice groups and major integrated health systems throughout the state.
Which California cities have the most licensed prosthetist jobs?
Los Angeles, San Diego, and Palo Alto have the most licensed prosthetist openings in California. Los Angeles drives the largest share of listings because of its concentration of trauma centers, VA facilities, and large outpatient O and P clinic networks, while San Francisco and San Diego add volume through academic medical centers and military-affiliated rehabilitation programs that generate consistent year-round demand.
Are there remote licensed prosthetist jobs in California?
Yes, but they're rare. Prosthetics is a hands-on clinical profession requiring direct patient fitting, alignment, and follow-up care, so fully remote roles are uncommon. About 13% of licensed prosthetist openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those tend to involve telehealth consultations, clinical education, or product specialist and territory manager roles that do not require direct device fabrication.
How can I get hired as a licensed prosthetist in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is completing a NCOPE-accredited residency program, several of which are based at California institutions including Shriners Children's and VA affiliate sites in Los Angeles and San Diego. New graduates should also look at associate prosthetist or technician-track roles at Hanger Clinic and similar large O and P groups, which often serve as stepping stones to full clinical licensure. Holding your California Board license application-ready before your residency ends gives you a clear edge over candidates still completing paperwork.
Where can I find and apply to licensed prosthetist jobs in California?
You can find and apply to licensed prosthetist jobs in California on Migrate Mate, which lists current California openings from employers actively hiring in the state. Find roles that fit your experience and specialty and apply directly to each employer without needing to create a profile or sign up.
