Loss Prevention Detective Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a loss prevention detective in Texas?
You must hold an active Level II or Level III Security Officer license issued by the Texas Department of Public Safety Private Security Program before working as a loss prevention detective in Texas. The process includes completing a state-approved training course, passing a background check, and submitting an application to the regulatory board. Most Texas employers also expect a high school diploma or equivalent, and many prefer candidates who have completed courses in criminal justice or a related field.
Which companies hire loss prevention detectives in Texas?
Employers hiring loss prevention detectives in Texas right now include Academy Sports + Outdoors, Amazon, and Goldman Sachs, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's dense concentration of big-box retail chains, wholesale clubs, and regional grocery groups like HEB means ongoing demand for licensed detectives across the state's major metro areas.
Which Texas cities have the most loss prevention detective jobs?
Katy, Balch Springs, and Dallas have the most loss prevention detective openings in Texas. Houston and Dallas generate the highest volumes driven by their massive retail corridors and corporate distribution centers, while San Antonio's growing commercial base and military-adjacent retail activity supports consistent hiring from both national chains and regional operators.
Are there remote loss prevention detective jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're rare. Loss prevention detective work is inherently on-site, involving physical surveillance, floor presence, and in-person apprehensions. About 14% of loss prevention detective openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those positions typically involve analytical functions such as reviewing digital footage, auditing exception reports, or coordinating case management from a central office.
How can I get hired as a loss prevention detective in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is starting as a loss prevention associate or security officer at a large Texas retailer such as Walmart, Target, or HEB, where internal promotion into detective roles is common. Obtaining your Texas Level II Security Officer license through the Department of Public Safety before applying gives you a clear edge. Adjacent roles in retail management, military police, or campus security translate well and are recognized by Texas hiring managers as relevant background.
Where can I find and apply to loss prevention detective jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to loss prevention detective jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Search the available roles, find the ones that match your experience and preferred location, and apply directly to the employer.
