1Chevron is accepting online applications for the role of Senior Finance Analyst - AI & ML, through June 26, 2026, 11:59pm Central time.
The Senior Finance Analyst - AI & ML is a role sitting at the intersection of rigorous quantitative finance and frontier machine learning. You will architect and deploy production-grade AI & ML systems that materially shape capital allocation decisions, financial forecasting, and risk modeling across the organization. This is not a support function - you will own the full analytical lifecycle, from problem formulation to model deployment, and your work will be directly visible to senior leadership. This role will be based in Houston, TX. We are looking for candidates who possess a rare blend of deep theoretical knowledge and battle-tested engineering skills.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Design, build, and own advanced machine learning and statistical models that directly inform corporate financial planning, capital allocation, and strategic risk assessment.
Develop predictive and generative AI systems for financial forecasting, scenario analysis, anomaly detection, and portfolio optimization.
Translate complex, ambiguous business problems into mathematically rigorous AI/ML solutions with clear, quantifiable impact.
Build and maintain production-ready ML pipelines — from data ingestion and feature engineering through model training, validation, deployment, and monitoring.
Partner with finance leadership, data engineering, and technology teams to integrate AI/ML outputs directly into decision-making workflows.
Establish and champion model governance practices, including interpretability, bias assessment, and auditability frameworks appropriate for regulated financial environments.
Continuously evaluate and adopt frontier AI/ML methodologies — large language models, time-series forecasting, causal inference, reinforcement learning — where applicable to finance.
Mentor junior analysts and contribute to building a rigorous, intellectually demanding team culture.
Required Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Computer Science, Data Science, Quantitative Finance, or another highly quantitative discipline. Master’s or PhD strongly preferred.
Experience: 5–7+ years building and deploying advanced AI/ML solutions in production environments. Demonstrated success applying deep technical expertise in mathematical, statistical, engineering, or finance domains.
Proven track record of owning complex end-to-end ML projects from ideation to measurable business impact.
Mastery of core and advanced techniques: Python (expert), PyTorch/TensorFlow/JAX, SQL, probabilistic programming (e.g., Pyro, Stan), causal inference, time-series analysis (including modern state-space and transformer-based models), optimization (linear/non-linear, stochastic), and large-scale data engineering.
Deep understanding of corporate finance principles (or the ability to learn them at exceptional speed) combined with the ability to challenge conventional financial thinking with data-driven rigor.
Exceptional communication skills – you can explain sophisticated models to CFOs and Boards while maintaining technical depth with peers.
Relocation will be considered.
Expatriate assignments will not be considered.

Machine Learning Jobs in Houston: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a machine learning job in Houston?
Houston's strongest hiring comes from energy companies digitizing operations, hospital systems and research institutions in the Texas Medical Center, and fintech firms near Greenway Plaza and downtown. Candidates who combine ML fundamentals with domain knowledge in energy data, clinical informatics, or fraud detection stand out locally. Targeting employers in these sectors and building a portfolio with relevant use cases gives you a clear edge in Houston's market.
Which companies hire machine learnings in Houston?
Employers hiring machine learnings in Houston right now include Vitol, Capgemini, and Crown Castle, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Houston's hiring mix skews toward large energy corporations, major hospital networks, and mid-size technology firms that support the city's industrial and healthcare sectors.
Are there remote machine learning jobs in Houston?
Yes, machine learning roles that are primarily research, modeling, or data pipeline work tend to be more remote-friendly than hands-on or embedded engineering positions. About 50% of machine learning openings tied to Houston are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting the desk-heavy nature of most ML work. Model development and data science tasks are the most commonly offered remotely by Houston employers.
How can I get a machine learning job in Houston with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Houston is targeting data analyst or junior data scientist roles at energy companies and hospital systems, which routinely hire early-career candidates and promote into ML work. Rice University and the University of Houston both have industry partnerships that connect graduates directly to local employers. Building a portfolio with energy or healthcare datasets and applying to rotational programs at large Houston-based corporations gives candidates without prior ML titles a competitive foothold.
Which industries hire the most machine learnings in Houston?
Houston machine learning roles concentrate in Energy, Banking & Financial Services, and Consulting & Professional Services, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Houston's position as the global energy capital, combined with the Texas Medical Center being the largest medical complex in the world, creates sustained local demand for ML talent in those two sectors alone.
