Marketing & Community CoordinatorElemental Studios & Elemental Counseling
Part-time | 10 to 15 hours/week | $30–$37/hour | Initial 90-day engagement
About Elemental
Elemental is a growing group of creative and helping professionals working at the intersection of healthcare, creativity, wellness, education, and community.
Elemental Studios
Elemental Studios is a community ceramics studio in NE Portland offering classes, workshops, and monthly memberships grounded in wellness education and practice.
Our mission is to build community around arts education and wellness principles and practices. We help people engage creatively and develop self-care practices they can use both in and out of the studio.
We believe that making things can be about more than learning a skill or producing something beautiful. Creative practice can provide opportunities to be present, experiment, tolerate imperfection, connect with others, develop confidence, and practice ways of engaging with ourselves and the world that support greater wellness.
Our vision is a world in which everyone has the knowledge, skills, and desire to live healthy and fulfilling lives. We believe that supportive social structures are critical for individuals and communities to be healthy and well.
Our current and developing programs include ceramics classes and workshops, monthly memberships, teen and youth programs, community programming, and educational opportunities for healthcare and other professionals.
We are also working to develop after-school programs that nurture creativity and wellness in children and teens and continuing education programs that allow healthcare and other professionals to integrate creative and wellness practices into their professional development.
Elemental Counseling
Elemental Counseling is a related counseling practice serving teens and adults, with a particular focus on ADHD and the challenges that can accompany it.
Our work helps people better understand themselves and how their brains work, develop practical skills for navigating challenges, recognize and use their strengths, and build stronger support systems within their families, social groups, schools, and workplaces.
Many of the people we work with arrive feeling overwhelmed, frustrated, anxious, hopeless, discouraged, or disconnected from themselves and others. Some are carrying grief about what they feel they should have accomplished or regret about opportunities they believe they missed.
Our goal is not to change who someone is or erase their past. We help people develop greater understanding, build skills, recognize their strengths, strengthen their relationships and support systems, and create meaningful change.
Over time, we hope clients experience greater understanding, confidence, self-compassion, courage, self-efficacy, hope, and ease, along with a greater ability to appreciate where they are now and feel genuinely hopeful, and sometimes excited, about what comes next.
Although Elemental Studios and Elemental Counseling are distinct businesses with different services and professional requirements, they share a broader belief that people have the capacity to learn, grow, create change, and build lives that feel meaningful and fulfilling—and that supportive communities matter.
About the Role
We are looking for a Marketing & Community Coordinator to help us communicate what Elemental is about and connect our programs with the people who will benefit from them.
This is a hands-on role in a small, founder-led organization. We are looking for someone who can think strategically, write and communicate well, build relationships, create engaging content, and turn ideas into action.
You do not need to be an expert in every area of marketing. In fact, we'd rather find someone with good judgment, curiosity, initiative, strong communication skills, and an ability to understand our mission than someone who simply knows how to produce a lot of social media content.
The right person will help us answer questions such as:
- How do we communicate what makes Elemental different?
- How do we reach the people who would benefit most from our programs?
- How do we build relationships with schools, healthcare professionals, community organizations, and other potential partners?
- How do we tell the story of creativity and wellness in a way that is meaningful rather than generic?
- How do we grow our classes, workshops, memberships, youth programs, and professional education opportunities?
- How do we make it easier for people to discover Elemental and understand where they fit?
This position will work closely with the founder to develop and execute a practical marketing strategy for both Elemental Studios and Elemental Counseling.
ResponsibilitiesMarketing Strategy
- Help develop and maintain a clear marketing strategy aligned with Elemental's mission, values, and goals
- Identify priority audiences and opportunities for growth
- Develop monthly marketing plans and campaigns
- Help determine which programs and audiences should receive the greatest marketing attention
- Test different messages, channels, and approaches and evaluate what works
- Bring ideas and recommendations to the founder rather than simply waiting for assignments
Content & Communications
- Develop and maintain a manageable social media presence
- Write and schedule social media content
- Create or coordinate simple photo and video content
- Develop short-form video and other content when appropriate
- Write and distribute email newsletters and promotional emails
- Help communicate the ideas behind our classes and programs—not just dates, prices, and registration links
- Repurpose strong content across social media, email, and the website
We want our marketing to feel human, thoughtful, creative, and genuine. We are not interested in creating content simply to fill a content calendar.
Community Outreach & Partnerships
A significant part of this role will involve helping Elemental build relationships in the Portland community.
Potential partners include:
- Schools and educators
- School counselors and psychologists
- Healthcare professionals
- Therapists and other mental health professionals
- Businesses and employee wellness programs
- Community organizations
- Arts organizations
- Parent and youth organizations
- Organizations serving communities that have historically had less access to arts and wellness programming
You will help identify potential partners, initiate conversations, maintain relationships, and develop mutually beneficial opportunities.
The goal is not simply to ask people to send us customers. We want Elemental to become a useful resource and a meaningful part of the communities we serve.
Website & Digital Marketing
- Identify opportunities to improve website messaging and user experience
- Help develop and improve landing pages for classes, workshops, memberships, youth programs, and counseling services
- Identify basic SEO opportunities
- Help ensure programs are easy to find and understand online
- Monitor website and marketing analytics
- Coordinate with outside specialists when specialized SEO, web development, photography, or advertising expertise is needed
Program Promotion
Help develop marketing campaigns for:
- Ceramics classes and workshops
- Monthly memberships
- Teen and youth programming
- Community programs
- Continuing education programs
- New programs and special events
- Elemental Counseling services and groups
As Elemental continues to develop new programs, you will help determine how to communicate their purpose, value, and audience.
Measurement & Learning
We want marketing decisions to be informed by evidence.
You will help us track:
- Where new students, members, and clients hear about us
- Website traffic and inquiries
- Email engagement
- Social media performance
- Class and program registrations
- Membership inquiries and conversions
- Counseling inquiries
- Referral and community partnerships
- Performance of specific marketing campaigns
The goal is to understand what helps people find Elemental, connect with our mission, and ultimately participate in our programs or seek our services.
What We're Looking For
We are looking for someone who is:
- A strong writer and communicator
- Creative and visually minded
- Organized and able to work independently
- Comfortable taking initiative
- Able to think strategically while also doing the hands-on work
- Good at building genuine relationships
- Curious about people and what motivates them
- Comfortable working in a small, evolving organization
- Interested in creativity, wellness, education, and community
- Comfortable learning about ADHD and the populations served by Elemental Counseling
- Able to communicate respectfully about mental health without turning everything into clinical or therapeutic marketing
- Comfortable experimenting, learning from results, and changing course
Particularly valuable experience
Experience with one or more of the following would be a plus:
- Marketing for a small business
- Arts or creative organizations
- Wellness organizations
- Education or youth programs
- Mental health or healthcare
- Community organizations or nonprofits
- Email marketing
- Social media/content creation
- Local partnership development
- SEO and website content
- Event or program promotion
You do not need to be an expert in all of these areas.
What We Don't Need
We are not looking for someone whose primary strategy is social media. It will be a part of our strategy, but not the centerpiece.
We also aren't looking for someone who promises to solve everything through paid advertising.
We want someone who can look at the whole picture, message, audience, relationships, content, programs, website, outreach, and data, and help us determine where our time and resources will have the greatest impact.
We are a small organization, so flexibility matters. Some weeks might involve writing emails and social content; another might involve reaching out to schools or healthcare professionals; another might involve helping launch a new program or reviewing website analytics.
First 90 Days
The first 90 days will be about learning, building relationships, establishing systems, and testing what works.
Month 1: Learn & Understand
- Become familiar with Elemental's mission, vision, values, programs, audiences, and voice
- Review current website, social media, email marketing, and outreach
- Review current enrollment and inquiry data
- Identify gaps and opportunities
- Establish a simple system for tracking where customers and clients come from
- Develop a practical 90-day marketing calendar
- Begin consistent email and social communication
Month 2: Connect & Test
- Launch targeted marketing campaigns around priority programs
- Begin structured community and professional outreach
- Develop relationships with potential partners
- Test different messages and content approaches
- Identify which audiences and channels appear most promising
- Begin developing longer-term marketing opportunities
Month 3: Evaluate & Refine
- Review marketing and enrollment data
- Identify what is working and what isn't
- Evaluate the effectiveness of outreach and partnerships
- Recommend where Elemental should focus its marketing resources
- Develop an ongoing marketing plan based on what we've learned
How We'll Measure Success
Success in this role isn't simply having more followers or producing more content.
After 90 days, we want to have:
- A consistent and sustainable marketing rhythm
- Clearer communication about what Elemental offers and why it matters
- Better understanding of our highest-value audiences
- A stronger email and digital presence
- New relationships with community and professional partners
- Better tracking of where inquiries and registrations originate
- Increased awareness of Elemental's programs
- A clearer understanding of which marketing activities are worth continuing and investing in
Ultimately, we want marketing to help us build the communities we envision and make our programs accessible to more of the people who can benefit from them.
Compensation & Schedule
10-15 hours per week $30–$37/hour
We anticipate an initial 90-day engagement, with the possibility of continuing and expanding the role based on fit, performance, and the needs of the organization.
The position will primarily work independently with regular communication and planning with the founder.

Who's Hiring

Marketing Coordinator Jobs in Portland: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a marketing coordinator job in Portland?
Focus your search on Portland's strongest hiring sectors: outdoor and apparel brands in the Central Eastside, tech and software companies in the Pearl District and Beaverton corridor, and healthcare and nonprofit organizations citywide. Candidates who stand out typically bring hands-on experience with content management systems, email platforms, and social media analytics. A portfolio showing campaign coordination work, even from freelance or volunteer projects, carries real weight with Portland employers.
Which companies hire marketing coordinators in Portland?
Portland marketing coordinator roles are posted by Barre3, US Foods, and TiE Oregon and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. The Portland market includes a distinctive mix of global outdoor and lifestyle brands headquartered locally, regional healthcare systems, and a dense cluster of mid-size tech companies, giving candidates a wide range of employer types to target.
Are there remote marketing coordinator jobs in Portland?
Yes, though availability depends on the role type. About 40% of marketing coordinator openings tied to Portland are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, with remote work most common for roles focused on content creation, email marketing, and digital analytics. Positions that involve event coordination, in-store campaigns, or on-site collaboration with creative teams tend to remain in-person.
How can I get a marketing coordinator job in Portland with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Portland is through internships or coordinator assistant roles at the city's outdoor brands, regional nonprofits, or healthcare marketing departments, which routinely hire candidates with limited formal experience. Portland's active nonprofit sector is particularly accessible, often valuing demonstrated initiative over a long resume. Building familiarity with tools like HubSpot, Mailchimp, or Canva before applying gives entry-level candidates a measurable edge over peers.
